You'll have to forgive me enthusiasm, but this game is -so- cool. I've only played one other Tony Hawk game, THPS 3, on a Gamecube in a store demo. I picked up a copy of THPS4 for my XBox tonight as I saw it supports 720p (too bad my TV failed to upconvert it to 1080i as I thought it would, but that's for another thread).

This game rocks. I love all the options for creating custom skaters, etc. As a former skateboarder that goes back to 1988 during "re"birth of skateboarding led by Hawk, Hosoi, Natas Kaupas, Caballero, Lucero, etcetcetc it's cool to see so many familiar names (Mullen and Caballero especially) still around..

Anyway, this game is a lot of fun and it's even better in 16:9 480p. Too bad my TV balked at 720, I was surprised by this as I thought it was supposed to either upconvert 720p to 1080i or downconvert it to 480p..

Sigh. I wish I had the $90 to pick it up. Although my thumbs hate these games, every other part of me loves this series.

I rented this yesterday and played on my bud's
HDTV (480p only). I will second the awesome
review. I was not in to these type of games until
Aggresive Inline. This how taken it to a new level.
    My thumbs hurt! [IMG]

I just rented THPS4 for XBox and the video doesn't appear to be working on my TW56x81 with the Microsoft progressive kit. All the other games I have work fine: Halo, Munch, and Rallisport but THPS4 just outputs audio and no video.

While I find it hard to believe is there something special I need to do/set for THPS4?

Are you sure that isn't THPS3? The Best Buy ad lists it at $49.99.

I'd be interested in hearing an opinion from a Tony Hawk veteran, if someone is willing to share? I bought THPS3 for the Xbox when it came out and played it to death, then I picked up 2X for $20 and played that to death (although I had already played the PSX version until my thumbs bled), and as good as TH4 sounds, I'm not sure I'm ready for my third major expedition into the Hawk world in under a year.

Any vets care to share their impressions? I'm torn on whether I grab this now or wait a few months.

Dave, GO GET THIS GAME NOW[IMG]
It is the best Tony Hawk game so far, it is much harder than 3, which is good so you can't just rush through this, and the pro challanges are crazy, with bam you race in a shopping cart, and with rodney you have to pull off five tricks on a vert ramp in one combo. I t is very hard, but worth the money, I haven't stopped playing it except for when I come on this and other forums.[IMG] I played it for 9 hours today alone.

THPS3 was my favorite, but this one is growing on me. I am adjusting to the sheer sizes of the stages right now. The control is still smooth as silk, and the gameplay is faster than last time(which was damn fast to begin with!) The spine transfer is alright, but the fact that it allows you to adjust yourself in the air to avoid bailing after launching off the side of a ramp(cmon, you all have done it at least once) is priceless. The balance in the air move has saved my ass so many times now.

This game is damn good, and the soundtrack is great this time. I like the fact that the real skaters did the voices too! The mini games sprinkled throughout are great, although the control for tennis is a little spotty for me.

Cmon, its a new Tony Hawk game. That is reason enough for me to celebrate. They could just keep rereleasing the same game each year with no enhancments except new maps and it would be worth buying. But neversoft always wants to go and make their last game look bad!

I'm still undecided on this one. I LOVED THPS1 + 2, but 3 was horrible. Maybe I'll swing by blockbuster and give THPS4 a rent first...

What was so bad about 3? The unlocking system was a little tedious but damn was the level design vicious in that game! And the speed was cranked up, which I loved. Also, the revert move changed my world in that game! At last, a vert whore like me had a combo linker!
