I know, David Niven ("Casino Royale") was firstNo, Connery was first. Casino Royale was made even after Goldfinger and Thunderball. Columbia still owned the rights of Fleming's first Bond novel (they had done nothing with it) and decided to use that for a friendly spoof after the successes of the other Bond films. They even had Ursula Andress! And of course David Niven and Peter Sellers as the two Bonds.
I remember seeing it in the cinema and we found it hilarious, though not really a great movie.
About Selleck as Indy: it would have been a different movie, all of them. IMO we can only be glad that we got Harrison Ford, it makes for a quite specific trilogy, more different than anything else than it would probably have been with Tom Selleck. Selleck also lacks the "campus attitude".
