I know, David Niven ("Casino Royale") was first
No, Connery was first. Casino Royale was made even after Goldfinger and Thunderball. Columbia still owned the rights of Fleming's first Bond novel (they had done nothing with it) and decided to use that for a friendly spoof after the successes of the other Bond films. They even had Ursula Andress! And of course David Niven and Peter Sellers as the two Bonds.

I remember seeing it in the cinema and we found it hilarious, though not really a great movie.

About Selleck as Indy: it would have been a different movie, all of them. IMO we can only be glad that we got Harrison Ford, it makes for a quite specific trilogy, more different than anything else than it would probably have been with Tom Selleck. Selleck also lacks the "campus attitude".

This the same as saying what if Christopher Walken was Han Solo or Sissy Spacec as Princess Leia. It simply can't be done because the characters and actors are part of pop culture and are part of movie history. It was simply meant to be. I think it's more interesting to talk about very bad movies or bad performances and talk about what if a certain actor or director had been in instead i.e. Robert Duvall instead of George Hamilton for Godfather 3.

I don't! Robert Duvall would have made GF3 a much better movie! End of story! ;) :D

At least with Selleck/Indy you can have some sort of discussion. I honestly think if you have a case of bad movie/role and good director/actor it gets to be a pretty one-sided debate. Yes the better talent would probably have made a better product! :)

How cool would it be if Selleck would agree to star in Indy 4 as Jones's brother or maybe even enemy? :)

After his performance as Han Solo in Star Wars, how is it possible they were considering Selleck in the first place? It always seemed odd to me that Ford struggled to get the Solo role and the Indy role.

I think Lucas didn't want one of the most visible stars of his Star Wars movies to also be Indiana Jones. I think they thought the two roles were too much alike.

I think he would make the role more for television than a blockbuster. If he was Indy, not only would it have been on DVD, but in the 8.88 bin at Walmart. I like Tom but he just not the blockbuster movie guy that will draw the viewers or fans.

In fairness, I don't think Harrison Ford was either, at the time that "Raiders" came out. Sure, he was Han Solo, but outside of that....

I dunno... would have been interesting. Would it have become the same classic that the Jones' movies are today? Not sure.

All I know is that I would have been interested to see it. Unlike Danny DeVito as Sallah. ;)

Easy there Mikel. It's not like we're talking about digitally removing John Rhys-Davis, and editing in DeVito. ;)
