Does anybody know how to identify the corrected discs in a store? Any help would be appreciated.

They should just abandon the whole Spotlight series, and re-release the Tom and Jerry series as it should have been released in the first place - remastered completely, not just with the first few shorts (as it was presented on Vol.II), in DVD HD and regular, in chronological order, and uncut.

The Spotlight Collection is an insult, while Looney Tunes gets the "royal treatment" with their Golden Collection.

Speaking of DVD HD, I think remastered Tom and Jerry shorts would look phoenomenial.

Are all the shorts in the Tom & Jerry: Spotlight Collection vol. 1 & 2 pre-Chuck Jones?

Yes. More specifically, they are all directed by Hanna-Barbera, and they are all made between 1940 and 1958.

Thanks for the response. That's my favorite era of T&J. The Chuck Jones T&J never really clicked with me. Thanks again.

By the way, has Warner Bros. fixed the disc 1 problem with Volume 1 at the retail level?

I feel just the same way about it! I remember watching both Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry cartoons on TV as a kid, and I'm very nostalgic for both... I'd LOVE chronological, remastered Golden Collections for Tom & Jerry! I bought the first Spotlight Collection but when I learned of the errors & edits, I lost a lot of my enthusiasm to keep collecting future volumes. :frowning:

With the release of Volume 3 (... Chuck Jones), I was thinking about picking up all three volumes. So, are there definitive answers to the questions previously asked about volumes 1 and 2?

Thank you.

Before I state about the Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection Vol. 2, there have been released 3 two-disc Spotlight Collections. All three have had some problems - false audio and Interlacing Problems and "DVNR".

Contrary what someone in a earlier post thought, the 3 Spotlight volumes feature the early Hanna-Barbera cartoons which is the best of the Tom and Jerry. The Chuck Jones and the Gene Deitch versions are not as good as the early H-B. Many people don't like the Gene Deitch versions. The Chuck Jones version has recently been released in the USA. In Europe almost all of the early H_B and the Chuck-Jones and Deitch have been released on 12 DVD's (England on 6 2-faced DVD's) - "Tom & Jerry - The Classic Collection." Generally these discs are modified and have poor PQ. In my opinion, the US versions are generally much better quality.

Due to "mistakes", the Spotlight Vol 1 and 2 each had replacement discs. The 2nd Volume: disc 2 replacement disc had a replacement. That replacement disc had problems for some but not all people - I believe with the problems interlacing & "DVNR". I had no problems which my tube TV and on a LCD screen. It was my belief that the problems some people were having was with the player not being able to handle the the Interlacing and "DVNR" problems. To my knowledge, there was no replacement of the 2nd replacement disc for Vol 2 - disc 2.

The Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection Vol. 3 problem was leaving out 2 cartoons that some people at Warners thought were "too offensive". Two cartoons are absent ("Casanova Cat" and "Mouse Cleaning").May I state that the people who did The Spotlight Collection for Warners are not the same people who did the Looney Tunes Golden Collection (Jerry Beck & Co.) The 2 missing cartoons in Vol 3 are found in the European discs unmodified!
