Actually, I wouldn't mind having NSync in Star Wars as long as they are promptly sliced into ribbons by the Sith.
As for Fox Trot... it's one of my favorite comics!

Latest rumor had it that Lucas' kids wanted NSYNC to be in the movie and Lucas cast them for a cameo. Afterwards, he was labeled as a sellout by the movie community and decided to remove them.

If there is any truth at all to it, I believe it is simply a publicity stunt.
