I am looking at these four sites selling the Philips 64PP9751 and trying to decide if it is worth the greatly reduced prices. I hadn't considered Philips until someone pointed out this great deal since this model is being discontinued. It's major selling points are that it is a 64" 16:9 screen with 9" CRTs and .515mm pitch for about $3120 shipped. It's major CON is that it only seems to be available on-line and that makes me nervous. To make it worse, I have never heard of any of these vendors. After reviewing each in-depth, I am inclined to go with number four, but I wanted to get opinions on these vendors, this TV and etailors in genereal before "pulling the trigger." Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here are the four deals and my notes for each one:
1. http://www.priceshock.com/64pp9751.html
+++ Great price... $3120, shipped!
--- You must request a return authorization within 15 days of invoice date and then have 30 days after that to get the item back to them. 15% Restock fee on returns and you must pay shipping on all returns even if original is defective! (That sounds illegal...checking into it.)
--- I don't think that they are available on the phone.
??? Their site says, "All products are sold with the full manufacturer’s limited warranty. The full text of any such warranty is available, free of charge, upon written request addressed to Priceshock, PO BOX 728 Loris, SC 29569." While this sounds good, I don't know if this means that I get a Philips warranty or some wattered down warranty.
2. http://www.niceelectronics.com/Electronics/group207.htm
+++ They are available via phone.
+++ $3388.02 shipped.
--- No exchanges, must be repaired is damaged.
??? Their site says, "Your receipt is good for all manufacturer's warranties." I don't know if this means that I get a Philips warranty or some wattered down warranty.
3. http://www.mpsuperstore.com/Electro...?discr14705.htm
Appears to be the same exact company as number 2. Just a different name and front end. Same exact policy text but different support phone numbers.
4. http://www.dmartstores.com/phil6464widr.html
+++ At $3599.00 shipped, it is the most expensive of the Etailers that have it, but it is still a great price.
+++ Much friendlier return of damaged items policy. (Will pay for it if you notify within 5 days.)
+++ They give their corporate office and main warehouse address and it is local to me!!!
+++ They are a 5 star Yahoo certified store.
--- Still an etailer so return of merchandise is still subject to 16% restock.
??? Their sites does not appear to mention anything about original manu. warranty. Need to verify before I order!

Big purchases online can be pretty intimidating. Unfortunately no one has a crystal ball and you have to make a tough decision if the extra savings are worth its weight in gold. I personally(crossing my fingers)have had nothing but good transactions on the Internet but I have seen others and it would defiantly take away from the online experience. I'd go with the more reliable company that is more flexible in its return/customer service. Then again...roll the dice if you like to gamble. :)

I've heard of Priceshock, haven't used them myself, but from what I know, they are solid. Of course, internet companies can come and go like the wind. If you buy something from a site that does go belly up, you *might* be stuck, but buying a good name brand should leave avenues open if that happens.

Thanks for the feedback. I will wait till Tuesday and call the fourth company since they are local to me and see if I can go to their warehouse and pick up the TV. If I can, I save another $300 ad that would seal the deal!

if this company is local to you, please bear in mind that you have taxes to add, which is not the case if you buy from an etailer in another state

Just wanted to let everyone know that I pulled the trigger on teh Philips 64pp9751 !! I bought it from http://www.dmartstores.com/phil6464widr.html even though they wer $400 more expensive than the cheapest online source I could find. I did so because I etsted their 800 number 3 times and they answered on the second ring every time. Some of the places liasted above don't even *have* a phone number!
I wanted to thank everyone with their help and I will let you know how the set turns out and how the on-line experience was!
NOW.... If only I could get a new progressive scan DVD player.... :)
