Neither, actually. Peterson's first was in Thief. Dafoe was Raven, one of the gang leaders in Hill's Streets of Fire, and also had some minor roles before that, including an uncredited role in Heaven's Gate.

Love this film. I think it was Peterson’s first role, Dafoe as well.

Love this one too. My friends and I went to see this about 10 times at the cinema. This and Manhunter had me convinced Peterson was going to be huge. He was great in all the pictures he made in this timeframe. Another really fantastic performance from him was as Stud Cantrell in HBO's baseball movie Long Gone.
