I briefly watched a few scenes before I sat down to watch the whole movie and I noticed some softness(I use a tweaked Mits Diamond & Panasonic RP-91). It made me wonder what all the rave reviews were about until I watched the whole movie.

Most of it was spectacular--even close or equal to some of the OTA HD I get on ABC(I think a little is lost in the 720-->1080 conversion the HD box does).

Also, I saw AOTC five times at the theater(non-digital)and noticed each time that objects at the edges were a bit blurry. Thankfully, there is none of that on the DVD.

Unfortunately, I couldn't crank the sound because the kids were asleep, but I did notice some nice back to front EX effects.

Lucasfilm did a great job with this DVD. It is truly a reference standard, IMO, that wasn't realized with TPM.

These "soft scenes" you guys are spotting were among the first filmed. I believe the 2 scenes in Padme's apartment were the first ones shot with the primary cast. Indeed, there are some image anomalies in these scenes. But I would attribute that directly to the 24p digital cameras. The crew was later able to perfect the process and tweak the set-ups to avoid these things.

In the film print version of the film shown theatrically, these scenes (especially the one with Anakin & Obi-Wan where Obi-Wan tells him, "You have made a committment to the Jedi Order, a committment not easily broken.") were very soft and muddy. The all-digital process has cleaned this up very nicely, however. And, again... this really only occurs in a couple of scenes and isn't even that bad.

The DVD transfer itself is top-notch. No question.
