I'm going to do my usual, stay up the night of the 14th, which will be easy this year since it falls on a Friday night, and follow the sinking minute by minute in my book TITANIC An Illustrated History by Don Lynch and then watch Cameron's film the next day. [IMG]

It's just my own private yearly ritual of observing the tragedy and paying my repects to those that died.

A good friend of mine is a Titanic buff. He has been since the mid 80's, like you.

I don't think he does anything special on the anniversary of the sinking, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did, either.

He's been to some of those traveling exhibits on the Titanic too.

Me too, one of the greatest moments for me as a TITANIC buff was when I ignored the red ropes and reached down and touched one of the lifeboat davits with my bare hands.

I once touched a traveling trunk and deck chair from a private collector's exhibit a few years back at a local museum.

It's quite humbling when you look past the "Hollywood" and fascination of Titanic, and wonder who's trunk it belonged to and what was their last thoughts.

I also did this at the Ancient Egypt exhibit with one of the huge statues. Thank goodness no one saw or my ass would have been kicked out the museum.[IMG]

Considering that it falls on Good Friday this year, you just gave me an idea of what to do on my day off. Think I'll finally take The Titanic SE off the 'to watch' pile. [IMG]

I did. Very sad. A link to history, but at 99...what a life she led. I'm sorry she lost her father and 3 of 4 brothers (including a twin) so young. She was 5 when Titanic sank.

I've always been fascinated by the Titanic sinking but I never thought to do anything for the anniversary, except - get born. The 15th of April is also my birthday. We should also remember that Abraham Lincoln died on April 15th also.

I thought what was spooky, was that Mrs. Asplund's mother, who survived the sinking with her, died on April 15, 1964. 52 years to the day that the Titanic sank. Cue Twilight Zone music....
