I don't get this. Why does R2 and R3 get rereleases of US A-list films before R1? Is there some 'strategy' involved?

BTW, I've been looking for this one for some time, needless to say ;) .

Paramount has nothing to do with it. As noted in the report, this disc will be released by Fox. Paramount has home video distribution rights for Titanic in the U.S. only.

Moving this to the Regional DVD area.

... as was the case with Braveheart. If I remember correctly, the releases in R1 and R2 had the same features, except the R2 was spread over 2 discs... So IMO there is a good chance that the contents will indeed be alike or even the same...

Yes, but the DTS track will most likely be in Italian since Italy dub their foreign films. For example the Italian Superbits always have the DTS track in Italian. So I wouldn´t cheer to much yet...

If current plans hold, both Titanic and Braveheart will have Region 1 re-releases in late 2005 by Paramount. Both will be "Special Collector's Editions".

I know this from the same way I know there will be 4 seasons of Enterprise, Brady Bunch and MacGyver in 2005, so I'm about as convinced as I can be.

Figure on Titanic around a year after Top Gun's SCE, and Braveheart before that but still after mid-year.

It's highly unlikely that Cameron would have recorded a commentary track, or there are enough extras for a 4 disc set unless this was a worldwide release. The original release was worlwide and given simultaneous releases of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, any SE of Titanic will doubtless get the same treatment.

But then it´s strange that FOX Italy announces these news before FOX U.S.. And there are still no news about a R1 release. It seems a little backward.

There has been no official announcement from Fox in Italy. The site linked in the first post is to a private fan site.

These things happen sometimes, no need to worry really. Bottom line is a TITANIC Cameron commentary and 2 discs or more of extras will not be an Italian exclusive. What could happen is that it might get released outside of Region 1 prior to the Region 1 release date. This sort of thing has happened before. Regardless, it looks like every major territory in the world will get this eventually.
