Cold Mountain Not for Tom Cruise
    Tuesday, January 15, 2002 7:35 CST
Variety says that Tom Cruise is no longer interested in playing the lead role in the Miramax/MGM adaptation of Charles Frazier's Civil War novel "Cold Mountain."
Cruise had never been set, but reports made his participation seem all but certain. Anthony Minghella will direct the film later this year

Please, god, may this be true. The thought of Mr. Ego in that role made me ill.

Well, with Tom Cruise pulling out of the project, maybe this is a chance for Tom Crooze to take the starring role? [IMG]

Hmm, not familiar with this project. Civil War films never really excited me though. Has any director been tabbed for the film? As for Tom pulling out, I wouldn't have thought this film was the right subject matter for him anway.

That's good to hear! Cold Mountain is one of my favorite books. Sorry, but I just can't see Cruise in the role of Inman...

Funny, I always pictured myself in the role.

    Anybody got Minghella's phone number?

If any stunt work is needed, Tom Crooze is just the man for this part.

This is not a dig at Tom Cruise - who I think is perfect in so many roles - but I'm really happy to hear that he pulled out of this one. I can't imagine he would come off much better than he did in that lousy "Far and Away" movie.
