Hey all,

I was wondering if some other people in NYC with home theaters would be able to help me out. I'm having a problem with the stereo balance on certain channels of my Time Warner digital cable. I think it was always there on my MTV but now it's changed to NBC as well. It's too left heavy and it ONLY happens on those two stations (that I've noticed). Does this happen to anyone else? Could this be from their master feed? What could be the problem that it's only on those two channels??

Craig, I have Time warner in NYC as well. I've noticed stereo balance problems before, but they've always been temporary. My biggest annoyance has always been the differring audio levels when using Dolby Digital, so I've been sticking to Pro Logic II from the analog outs for quite a while now.

Are you using the digital or analog audio?

I don't watch MTV, but I also get a left-heavy balance on NBC. Been that way now for several weeks. I have no idea what causes it.

Ironic, isn't it? The DD dialnorm parameter was supposed to help smooth out those transitions, but there's a catch -- the engineers who set up the Dolby encoders for the individual station have to know what they're doing. I'd love to find out who to talk to at Turner Classic Movies to get them to fix the settings on their Dolby encoder. Their current settings drop the DD volume by 31db.

I'm using analog...my only option at the moment.

Is there anyone out there who would care to listen?

My NBC has been like that for longer than the last few weeks. Been a couple of months I think.

MTV has ALWAYS been like that.

Anyone to call?

So anyone???

i had to watch a 1 hour special on NBC last night and just had to sit lopsided so it sounded "normal." I'm thinking of calling Time Warner cable and letting them know (not that they'll care). It's really annoying.

I have Knology here in GA, and my CBS feed is always Right channel heavy. My NBC feed sounds good, but usually has interference patterns in the video. Oh, well.

Michael,

Doesn't really matter if it has a balance button. The signal that is input is what matters considering I tape every week of Will and Grace and recently taped some stuff on MTV. I don't watch a lot of TV so whatever I'm watching I'm usually recording.

I just spoke with TWC of NY and they said they weren't aware of the problem. The guy I spoke with was really nice and said he would make a note of it and try and have some of the tech guys look at it. He said to have some people call in if they, too, are noticing a problem because it might get the job done quicker.

Would anyone be interested in making a quick phone call to them to alert them? It'd be nice if they actually took care of it.

OK....

So is ANYONE noticing the rampant problems with balance right now????

It's all over the place! CBS is almost all the way to the left. NBC almost all the way to the right. ABC...halfway to the right. And a bunch of other channels are messed up as well. Lifetime being one of them (i taped an intimate portrait the other night). Is it just me??!??!? I HATE THIS!!!!

OK they think i'm crazy now. They say no one else is complaining about this problem but I checked it out at work (in manhattan) and they have the same problem.

E! has been COMPLETELY gone from the left channel for over a week now. It's ONLY in the right channel. CBS is MUCH more towards the left channel. NBC towards the right...and on and on. It's all over the place.

I got a new cable box and it's still the same problem.

When you just attach the coaxial...i experience no problems, only a little on NBC. I am thinking it's the "digital" cable box. But what would that have to do with anything???
