Is it me or do all the CGI effects on the new Time Machine movie look very cheap and too cartoonish? Almost like they came off of Hercules or Xena. They just don't look big budget to me.

I read a screening review that said the effects shots in the trailer were incomplete. They have been finished and polished in the final movie release and look very good in the opinion of the reviewer.
Edit: Actually, the link to the review and lots of other discussion is in this thread

quite often with trailers, the visual effects are temps or rush jobs. i worked on swordfish (the openning explosion) and we had (if i remember correctly) only 3 weeks to complete 3 clips of different segments of the explosion for the superbowl spot. in the end it looked fine, but wasn't nearly as polished as the final output, plus it didn't have the final "green/gold" treatment that was given to it in the end.

Matt, congrats on that explosion shot in 'Swordfish', it's definatly one of the most inventive and thrilling explosions i've ever seen.[IMG] [IMG]

I concur with John. Swordfish is one of the worst movies I've seen in quite some time, but that explosions was one of the few high points of the film. Exhilerating, innovative, and just generally well-done.

What I wanna know is what's with the crappy skeleton effect that's popping up in this movie and in Spiderman. I really liked the first Time Machine and I really want to see Spiderman so I hope those two shots using the crappy turn everyone to cartoon skeletons shot is either fixed or removed from both movies.
