Thunderbird wiped out email! (1 Viewer)

This has happened to me twice in the last year!

For no reason and without warning, Thunderbird came up with all of my email accounts missing, and running the email set-up wizard. When I went into the folder where the email files were stored, it was as if I had just installed the program (settings, etc. were gone).

I'm developing the habit of copying the Thunderbird folder to another location so I don't lose everything again. I love the flexibility of Thunderbird (haven't used outlook/express in years.)

Has any else run into this issue?

That's frightening!

Any idea what triggers it? I use Thunderbird, but if it spontaneously eats email, I'll switch back to Outlook.

Try http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=39 and search for mail disappearing etc in the search box to the right and see what you can find. Better to go directly to where they discuss Mozilla stuff and only Mozilla stuff...

http://groups.google.com is also an invaluable resource for tracking down problems.

I had that problem with 1.0.5. I fixed it by installing 1.0.6.

check in the thunderburd folder or your locak settings folder/thunderbird settings to see if your mail is still there. this sounds similar to the firefox erasing bookmarks after a crash, but they were still there, but a new set was displayed.
