The strange brew mix is a plus, but the hits are still few and far between. The music and sound is outstanding, though, and the PQ is good if not great.
Thanks very much for the report!

I decided to rent this from netflix for now, and based on your review that's looking like a good decision.

Still, I'm curious....

This is one of my all-time favorite anthology series.

By the way, the reason for the higher price tag is because 27 of the 67 episodes have audio commentary tracks.

Plus Karloff's NBC station promos as well.

I love this set, too. Haven't watched even half of them, and I'm just picking them at random, but even the "lesser" episodes are a delight.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see three copies on the rack at Best Buy the other day, when they'd had none previously since the release.

I may have missed something, but it seems like 2 of the three main characters in the first episode are totally bonkers....? All except Leslie Nielsen are just nuts.

Another first rate episode, "The Terrible Teakwood." Something about stories of virtuoso pianists with their hands cut off that always strikes a great horror chord for me (pun intended). Excellent acting, good story, and I love the fact that they replace the usual ending music over the end credits with the solo piano playing from the episode. The series is starting to fire on more cylinders well into the set.

Mr George is another good episode. Mr George is the guardian of the girl that is set up to inherit everything, but, people in the house want to bump her off to get the fortune. Each of the combatants is then killed off leaving the little girl as the sole error. This was incredible episode and i watch it last night.

This would be a great series to re-make, especially with today's technology. You can not replace Boris Karloff, but, the plot lines could be dressed up. Outerlimits did a great job with re-doing itself in the 90s.

Not to be confused with "The Horrible Short-Term Memory." It was a pretty terribly ugly box, though.

The "Mr. George" episode (whew, easy title) was also directed by Ida Lupino, I believe. It was a very good episode, but I think it would have been even better if Boris had done the voice of the gentle uncle, Mr. George. The one they used was just too generic, expressionless.

This show is great purchased, if you like episodes that keep you on your seat. There are some really good plots and acting, especially from time to time when Boris Karloff does a guest appearance. I have watched several episodes and i can not get tired of them.

The more I watched this show the more I like it! Thriller did not get the accolades that Twilight Zone got at time, but it still is a brilliant show. Boris Karloff as the host and some time guest star was a solid tactical decision. Boris does a great job with introducing the events of the show!!

Bought this set a few years back and glad I did. Actually, the first handful of THRILLER episodes (by producer Fletcher Markle) are so bad, they're great. The only thing scary about them is how awful they are. One critic quipped, "The third episode is called 'Worse than Murder,' and it is.""The Mark of the Hand" is another howler.

Of course the series got much much better when William Frye took over as producer -- but if you're looking for some laughs, the early episodes are worth watching.
