Thoughts about "Improvised" Atmos Setup? (1 Viewer)

I badly want to add height speakers to my 5.1 setup but a) I don't like the idea of upward-firing speakers, and b) my basement doesn't seem well-suited to speakers attached to/installed in the ceiliing.

My thought: stack height speakers on top of the front R/L and rear R/L speakers.

I figure I could make a "stand" in between the existing speakers to add maybe 2-3 feet between the main speakers and the height speakers.

My main speakers all stand about six inches off the ground.

The bottom edge of my TV is 27.5 inches off the ground, and when I watch, my head is about 36 inches off the ground.

If I stacked height speakers on top of the existing speakers - with an added "stand" between standard speakers and the height ones - the height speakers would probably be about five feet off the ground, or 2 feet above my eye level.

Does this sound like a viable plan?
