With the vertical thing, most problems are caused by the disc being vertical.

Well, the discs are vertical because the discs are vertical. But if you lay on your side it looks like the discs are horizontal...unless your eyes are closed but that's a whole other story.

I've heard then when the discs are horizontal that's because the discs are horizontal. YMMV.
