June 6, 1944 - D-Day. Operation Overlord, the storming of the beach of Normandy begins. On the morning of June 5, 1944, Dwight D. Eisenhower gives the go-ahead for the largest amphibious assault in history, using combined forces of multiple military to storm the beach of Normandy. June 9, 1954 - Joseph Welch puts an exclamation point on the McCarthy hearings. "Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?" McCarthy managed to keep fair popularity with many republicans and some democrats, for years, but when Eisenhower took office, McCarthy began to lose it. Eisenhower privately referred to him as a "dope" in 1953, which began McCarthy's pronouncements of communism within the military. Enraged at his actions, commanders and former commanders let Eisenhower and congressmen of both parties know. When Welch, who represented the Army, easily deflated McCarthy's trumped up claims McCarthy's agitation and bullying led him to that moment. By the afternoon of June 9, the Eisenhower administration made clear they would make no other military representatives available for hearings and would not support them. In a week, with pressure coming from the white house and senate democrats, hearings were shut down. McCarthy stayed in office until he died in 1957.

Johnson largely ignored the analysis, contending that many of those in the CIA were still Eisenhower & JFK's "cronies", a systematic replacement of CIA officials began shortly thereafter.

June 9, 1923 - Final work on the last "Alice" short is completed by Laugh-O-Gram, a company run by Walt & Roy Disney in Kansas City, Missouri. "Alice in the Big League" would not be released until 1927.

June 10, 1953 - Eisenhower, who had been under attack by Senator Robert Taft (R-OH) and Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg for his efforts to have the UN broker a peace agreement to the Korean conflict and for his plan to cut $5 Billion out of the Air Force budget, delivers his "New Look" policy speech, advocating three main goals: (1) Communism is a great threat ("The threat to the soul of mankind"), but the US Needs to work with other nations to contain and cannot act unilaterally, calling that strategy a " 'fortress' theory of defense." (2) He notes that in the age of nuculear weapons, there is no need for a large defense.. noting that just a "small number of aircraft" could "visit on an enemy as much explosive violence as was hurled against Germany by our entire air effort throughout four years of World War II." Thus, the need for a large military was a thing of the past he contended. (3) That by using other nations as brokers, the United States should begin looking for a "bigger bang for the buck" from it's military policy, hold and shake the stick, and let other nations play "thoughtful broker" in military matters.

June 10, 1963 - John F Kennedy signs multiple important legislation, and changes minds. At 8AM EST, Kennedy Announces that the US will cease all atmospheric tests of Nuclear weapons. Kennedy announces that the US does not seek a “Pax Americana”, an American Empire, but rather a 'strategy of peace' He calls his stance on atmospheric test an 'open policy' and invites the USSR, Britain, and France to join in talks - and asks for them to cease testing within 2 months also. Two months later, atmosphere, space or underwater tests of nuclear weapons were banned. Only one of the signor nations has ever broken the treaty (France). At 1PM EST, Kennedy signs into law the Equal Pay Act (EPA), which notes that women cannot be paid significantly less for similar jobs in the workplace. Kennedy wraps up his day by sending a telegram to George Wallace, (D-AL) governor of Alabama asking him to not prevent black students from going to school in light of court cases he had lost. Wallace declines, and Kennedy is forced to call in the national guard. That comes up tomorrow ;)

June 19, 1885 - Statue of Liberty Arrives in NY

June 19, 1953 - Rosebergs are executed for their involvement in passing atomic secrets to the Soviet government. They denied their involvement to the death. David Greenglass, Ethel's brother and a military worker at Los Almos confessed to his involvement in turning over secrets but quickly named names and turned over his sister & brother in law, as well as others. Shortly thereafter, President Truman had the secret service make all arrests and the trial began March, 1951. Convicted in a short trial and sentenced to death, they remained at Sing Sing prison through the remainder of Truman's term. Pressed to offer them clemency as he left office, Truman denied such an act, saying that the US "must work diligently" to prevent the spread of nuclear technology, as that fate could lead to the death of millions. Before their execution, newly elected President Eisenhower echoed Truman's statement saying that their work may have lead to the potential "death of Millions". As years have passed, both the case has drawn many who believe they were wrongly executed and those who believe that they were spies.

I bet we been together for a million years,
And I bet we’ll be together for a million more.
Oh, It’s like I started breathing on the night we kissed,
And I can’t remember what I ever did before.
What would we do baby, without us?

What would we do baby, without us?
And there ain’t no nothing we can’t love each other through.
What would we do baby, without us? Sha la la la.

That IS amazing. Still making my way through the DVDs of Season 1. :emoji_thumbsup:
