My girlfriend and I just watched Thirteen Ghosts tonight, and she noticed something very bizzare. At exactly 1:03:45 into the movie, there's a man's face in the shadows on the left side of the screen. It is quite large. The face appears against a black bookshelf. At first I thought it could be an effects guy who got into the shot by mistake, but there's no room for someone to be where the face appears. Is it a reflection, or possibly (and quite cool) a real life ghost?! I have a BMP screen capture I took with the PowerDVD, but I'm not sure how to post it. If anyone has this movie on DVD, check it out and telll me what you think!

Very interesting. I went through the the whole library scene carefully and about the only possible explaination I could find was that the reflection was from a crewman standing outside the window. However, the orientation of the reflection isn't consistant with that assumption. So, your guess is as good as mine...

Maybe it's the focus-puller or a grip. ;) It must have been a nightmare for the cinematographer to shoot in a glass house!!!

Jeff,

You know the situation- I'm packing up the disc yesterday, and the girlfriend says "I wanted to watch that again", so to appease the gods that be, we had one more viewing last night. Don't worry though, I droppped it by the post office this morning on my way into work. When you get it, be sure to check for 'the man'!

I played with that picture in Photo shop and was not able to get anything resembling a face out of that square.

In the making of featurette on the disc they did say it was a nightmare filming in a glass house. They asked everyone on the set to dress in dark clothes just to try to help a little bit.

Chris,

Yes and no. Right scene, but your capture doesn't show the face at all. There's a distictly clear face in that scene. It's not something you have to look hard for. It sticks right out, and is quite distracting, If I email you the image I captured from PowerDVD, can you post it here? The face shows up quite nicely. In fact, it's there for a couple of seconds, and appears to move slightly.

It's the director's image. Check out his clips in the extras, then look closely at the scene in question. I was a little creeped out at first, until I saw the supplements. Which justifies the old saying, "People who film in glass houses should shave salt-n-pepper beards."

In one of the interviews, the director mentions that it was one of thier problems filming in a glass house, too many reflections!

The strange thing is that the surface upon which the face appears on , doesn't seem to be reflective. Both actors in the scene pass in front of it several times and they don't cast any reflection.
