    Not that I'm gonna complain, but I'm wondering how places can sell DVDs so cheaply at times.

    Take Basic Instinct (Unrated Version), which is currently the 2nd-most popular DVD at DDD. Just $7.97 for this one! And it's an SE to boot! Not too shabby.

    I have questions about Basic Instinct. Perhaps some fellow HTF'ers can jump in here. ......

    I've looked at several different on-line shoppes, and have come up with no less than THREE different variations for this film's OAR!

    DDD claims it's the unusual 1.78 (which I'm nearly certain it is NOT), DVDEmpire seems to like the 1.85:1 ratio here. While Amazon, just to be different, claims it's 2.35. [IMG]

    Anyone care to break this tie? Thanks. (I'd guess Amazon wins @ 2.35.)

    Also on the subject of B. Instinct, last December 19th an HTF member wrote this in a similar thread.....

    >>"I wrote a letter last year to Artisan complaining about the ice-pick packaging and within two weeks they sent me out the official "unrated" case."

    Am I to presume from the above comment that the "unrated" cover art is different from the bulging Ice Pick packaging used for the R-rated DVD? Because I can find no on-line site that shows a different case for the unrated version.

    Thanks. [IMG]

    It's cheap, but so is cow manure.

    As for the OAR, it's 2.35:1 matted widescreeen.

    2.35:1 is the OAR. There is no other OAR other than this one. The other websites you mentioned will send you this version, because it's the only one that exists.

    I know of 3 different versions so far:

    Original Basic Instinct (non anamorphic, and looks awful).
    Basic Instinct (Special Edition) {Rated R}
    Basic Instinct (Special Edition) {Unrated}

    I believe that those are the only ones that exist, and no matter what cover they have, it will be one of those version. I have seen like 3 different covers for the "Unrated Special Edition" and even though it had different covers, it was the same release. The same goes for the rest of them.

    Someone can correct me on this, but I don't believe that the Rated-R version has an ice-pick....But I could be totally wrong about that.

    The Unrated Special Edition that I have, does NOT have a cover at all...it's a completely SEE-THROUGH clear case, and within the case, you can see the ice-pick and the DVD is sitting on a piece of foam, which scratches it (it's true).

    I have also seen the UR Special Edition, with an actual cover...but that one looked tacky, and I didn't get it.

    When you go to the websites, just make sure that they say it's "Unrated Special Edition"....They'll send you the one they have available.

    Dave - both versions originally came out in the ice pick packaging, but were later repackaged into standard keepcases. I've seen the R-rated version in a keepcase at Wal-Mart and Best Buy, but haven't seen the unrated version. Along the same line, anybody know the e-mail address for Artisan? I couldn't find contact info at their website.

    I think I like the keep case better. It has the insert and all that.

    The R2 unrated Special Edition comes in a keepcase too. It also offers a DTS audio track.

    The ice pick packaging doesn't have a chapter insert, just the disc (and only a piece of foam to set it on). I've seen Basic Instinct at B&M's for $9.96, so DDD's price seems to be around the norm. Even if you do get the ice package, Jeff and others have made custom covers for it [IMG].

    The Ice Pick case DOES have an insert booklet. it is round, and is several pages-fold out. you have to pry open the plastic to get at it.
    It took me a while to realize it-it looks like its only an insert card with the title.
