I don't see why that excludes someone from the tournament. I was considering seconding Udall, if not for the fact that this tournament is already too heavy on the Nicholson.
Sorry, Udall is out. :)
And I would say Humbert, who falls into the obsessive category, lets his obsession get the better of him. After all, he eventually commits murder because of it. And I was thinking of the James Mason portrayal.
Good call on Dead Ringers! :emoji_thumbsup:
Dammit! I had just thought of a great nom and now it slipped my mind! Arrggghhhh!!!!!

Noted and updated. :)
Edit: Jen, since you're an admirer of Hugo Weaving, see if you can find a copy of Link Removed
It's a terrific little film that stars Weaving and Russell Crowe. Sadly, it's not out on DVD, but it's worth checking out even if you gotta watch it on VHS.

Thank you for the info on Proof, SteveGon. I will keep an eye out for it. If you get a sec, maybe you could give Elrond a Second in the Movie Characters Tourney? :)

I have to agree that Alex wasn't crazy - he was just a hoodlum, albeit a particularly nasty one. To further illustrate this view, there was a final chapter in the book in which an older Alex reflects on his wild youth.
Are we dealing with books that movies and characters are based on, or the movie itself?
I note that my nomination of De Niro's performance as Max Cady in Cape Fear has been seconded and thirded, without controversy. How is it that Max Cady is considered "Crazy" but not Alex?
Also, you recommend Wade Whitehouse as a nomination. What exactly made him crazy in comparison to Alex?
Anyway, I will take your lead and nominate Frailty - Adam Meiks

Speaking for myself (as one of those who opposed the nomination of Alex), I didn't vote for Cady, and unless he's up against someone really un-crazy (like Grima Wormtongue), I don't plan on voting for him during the tournament.

Well, I guess we just have a difference of opinion on this. For me, it's always been clear that Alex is not crazy. Now guys like Max Cady and Frank Booth? Oh yeah, they're nuts. Granted, Alex could easily become like Max or Frank, but ultimately I don't think he would. To back this up, we can always refer to that last chapter in the Burgess book. Yes, I know it wasn't filmed, but once you're aware of it...

BTW, I nominated Meiks, so I'll consider your nom a second.

Erik, Dead Ringers had not been seconded so your third counts as a second.

Three more I've added to the noms list:
Sisters - Danielle Breton/Dominique Blanchion
Repulsion - Carol Ledoux
The Tenant - Trelkovsky
Well, it's about darn time someone seconded Bobby Thompson. :D
On a serious note, I'm curious as to what will be discussed on the commentary track that is slated to be a feature of the upcoming Targets DVD release. Given recent events, it should be an interesting listen.

Well, Ric's thirds pushed us over 32 so I guess we're shootin' for 64! There are still lots of great noms that deserve to make it in.
Like...
The Ninth Configuration
Santa Sangre
Targets
Repulsion
The Tenant

...and so on. ;)
Where's Justin when ya need him?

Erik, good noms!
Rob, you make some good points. Anyway, the best I can describe my position is that I just don't get that evil vibe from Alex. Now Max and Frank - they exude evil and sickness. :)
Five more noms, seconds, and thirds for everyone who has participated thus far.
