I tried the search button but no good info...So whats the deal i know they have a released it in other regions but will the special edition be comming to us??
There is an earlier thread on this, which you may have seen. (There was no conclusive answer there, either.)
May I make an open suggestion? If someone in the "biz" (of homevideo, of course) who has a relationship with Universal HomeVideo is reading this and were to go into the UHV's business-to-business site ---(typing in the address will deliver you to a flash page with a sign-in dialog box to the "Universal Home Video Subscribers Area" )---, and share with the audience any relevant findings, we might all get a clue as to what's going on. (I'm assuming this would not be a gross breach of ethics. With corporate execs stealing hundreds of millions of dollars, a little early tattling about release dates would be worth---what?---a slap on the wrist from corporate America?) I tried UHV's consumer site, and, like most, it's atrociously uninformative.
Me...I am happy with my anamorphic widescreen copy I got over a year and half ago for $7.99. Not that I wouldnt complain about a special edition whenever it is due out!
Well, Ed might be one of those unfortunates who missed the last release before it dried up.
It sure does suck how much they are pissing around with this title while other regions are getting stuff. A Piper commentary even as I understand it for R2.
At least I also got a cheap copy when I heard they were going OOP.
Yeah, an SE sure would be nice. The current OOP disc's transfer is great, especially since it's the only widescreen version ever released on home video in the states, as far as I know. You would think they would release it around time Escape from New York SE hits, since it would probably sell better. But that is just wishful thinking. I hear Carpenter, as well as Piper, recorded a commentary, too.
I interviewed John Carpenter last week about The Fog. When I asked him what catalog DVD projects were in the works, he mentioned only an SE of Escape From New York, for which he had already completed his contributions. He did not mention They Live. That doesn't mean that it's not being redone, but it probably means that there hasn't been much meaningful progress on a re-release thus far.
I've said it before & I'll say it again, John Carpenter is not only one of my favorite (not perfect, but still well respected in my eyes) Directors and his commentary tracks, be they solo or with a friend*, are among my absolute favorites.
*The track for In The Mouth Of Madness being the only exception....pretty boring & I blame his trying to get guest commentator DP Gary Kibbe to say damn near anything.
