So, I'm really tempted to buy this film as I can get it for a really reasonably price. However, everyone who's seen it on this forum says there's some framing problems. I've read through most of the UK review sites and none makes any mention of this. So... what the hell is wrong with the transfer?!?!?

I just spun this the other day but mostly for the commentary. I didn't pay attention to the picture.

I watched this recently. Apparently its a bit cropped on all 4 sides, but if you didn't look for it, you would never know.

The transfer itself is really lovely - sharp and colorful. While I haven't seen a recent disc like Ghosts of Mars, I think the R2 They Live is by far the best looking Carpenter in my collection.

DVDcompare says that after the opening titles the aspect goes from the correct 2:35 to 2:10.
It's like that on all the R2 releases for some reason.
I'll be picking up the new R1 release for the correct 2:35 .

I got the R2 for the great commentary track that all fans of this movie need to hear.

So what if its framed a fraction out.

I too will second that motion. I ordered the disc from dvdworld.co.uk this past spring (along with DIE ANOTHER DAY) and have no problems with the framing, besides, I could always use the "Zoom-Out" function to compensate for my t.v.'s slight overscan problem. I don't think I'll bother to get the r1 version as the commentary won't even be on it.
