There are basically no Section 1 movies for me (maybe 1 every 10 years or so) so I only have Sections 2 and 3 but my Section 2 is divided into 2a: cheaper price and 2b: really cheap price ($5 or less).

I'd never buy a movie I actively disliked. But I had a friend and fellow collector who did just that. We were in a store together when I noticed he had No Country For Old Men in his hand. "You hated that movie!" I told him (we had seen it together). "I know", he said "but it is an Oscar winner". LOL

This is EXACTLY the demographic studios cater to and the reason why there are so many pointless reissues: people who buy a movie even if they don't like it just because it completes someone's collection, looks nice on a shelf or for some other bizarre reason. It's why we now have the "Diamond Luxe Edition"

I also picked up The Last Waltz for $5. (I tend to use the $5 sales as an excuse to upgrade DVDs to BD) Bummer that it doesn't have all the DVD special features - as long as they were transferring one commentary to the disc, it would have been too much effort to include the second one?I hate to get rid of original packaging, but I'm tempted to get some double disc BD cases for instances like this. Keep the Blu-ray art, toss the DVD package, stick the DVD disc in with the Blu-ray. My OCD part hates doing stuff like that, but the part of me that has to fit everything into an apartment is considering it.

^ Or you can get a double-disc (or triple-disc) Standard DVD case, with clips, to hold the DVD literature plus the BD literature (assuming both combined are not too fat) and I have then found that the BR cover slides neatly almost 100% of the time inside the DVD cover. So, with this approach, the true OCD does not have to throw anything away.

I will report back tomorrow!

That will make me very happy as I held off on this title for just such a sale...
I was nervous at first as this was the first thing I found:

Here is why I said I was skeptical about finding catalog titles on sale at my local BB:

But then I found it! A free-standing cardboard kisok containing a number of cheap catalog titles:

I even got a copy with a slipcover!

Thanks, Thomas T! :thumbs-up-smiley:

Yeah, the post-apocalyptic media department at Best Buy takes a lot of browsing before you know you've been through every place something might be hiding.

 "Post apocalyptic"

Honestly, those sales slots are nearly always empty whenever I'm in the store. I sometimes stand there and read the slips wondering what I'm missing...

Yes they are, and I do that, too -- just to make myself aware of a good price on something I'd buy if I happen to come across it in some other section.

You're welcome, Mike! But now you've made me jealous! I'd have loved to pick up The Sand Pebbles and An Affair To Remember for $5.99! Maybe I should go back and peruse the BB aisles again!

Great pix, Mike. I once tried to take pix of the sparse anime section at my BB, so I could document the continuing decline of shelf space accorded to anime, but a manager was too close and told me to put the camera away or they'd have to ask me to leave. I eventually did get some pix, though.

I think most of my $4.99 Blu-rays came from Best Buy's previous DVD-to-Blu trade-in coupon sales.

However, I recently picked up Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory from Best Buy for $4.99....

And I've been debating about picking up Wargames. :)

I meant to go to Best Buy to look for Cleopatra, but I forgot. I'll have to check this weekend. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Well, you'll never find a Criterion title for sale for $5, not even in a porn, er, I mean, pawn shop, but I'd consider it a bargain bin find (and a minor miracle) if I happen to pick up a Criterion release for $10-15 somewhere (even used). The lowest I've come across a Criterion title was a used copy of Rushmore on DVD for $17 at a dying mom & pop. It's like a sign that the world is ending if a Criterion title is to be had for less than $20 :(
The curious case of Benjamin Button criterion collection 5 dollars at Walmart. Picked it up almost a six months or so ago. Never say never.

This is different. Technically, this is a Criterion distributed title but it was a rare co-release with the studio that made the film. I've never seen this title go higher than $20.

This is really off-topic...but I picked up the Criterion DVD release of Brazil at a garage sale one day a few years back for $3.

And I picked up the Criterion DVD of Black Narcissus at a garage sale two weekends ago (even though I already own the Blu) for $1. It will be gifted.

Score!

I was at the Best Buy in Secaucus NJ. yesterday. No Cleopatra , and a disappointing Bluray section in general.

I noticed that the titles were online as well. Is the sale over now?
