I don't know exactly what it is about her in that movie, but I find her to be extraordinary in that film. I can't think of any other actress that TRULY reminds me of a girl that I could have just as well grown up with. She doesn't have that high profile status that other actresses do, which I think adds to her realism in that role. I think that the film would have been a disaster without her.

Even the name of her charactor, 'Novalee Nation', strikes me as being genuin. I guess I just really like that name for some reason. She made me really feel for her in this movie, and I remember asking my brother as we watched it "What is it about this sweet girl that makes everyone want to leave her and take advantage of her!?" He didn't know either.

I hope you understand where i'm coming from here, there's just something about Natalie, in this film in particular, that makes me want to know her more.

I am a huge Natalie Portman fan but this film is....well...trashy?I think Novalee makes horrible(stupid) decisions. It reminds me of a movie one would find on Lifetime.I tried watching this last night but I kept channel surfing instead.

Beautiful Girls is the one film that made me a Portman fan.

Another Natalie Portman fan here. [IMG]
Well, I wasn't too crazy about "Where The Heart Is" but I thought that "Anywhere But Here" was a stronger film. It worth seeing this film if only for Natalie's great performance.

[IMG] I could not agree with you more, John. She is remarkably real in that film. Her performance was rare from one her age. I hope she will make many more.

I'll second "Beautiful Girls" as the film that made me take notice of her.

BTW, I recently saw a report where a mother gave birth to her child at a Wal-Mart store. Is this a common occurrence?

Yep, it just about happens daily. One time I was walking around in the magazine aisle when some lady just decided to give birth. So I helped her out and delivered the baby.

    Rich,
In case your were being sincere about your experience and there was no sarcasm in your reply, then, congrats on the delivery.
I was merely being inquisitive as life has certainly imitated art this time around, not mocking the situation. Here's the link to the report.

HAHAHA, I was just being a little sarcastic there. I've never actually delivered a child in Wal-mart.

I didnt care for this film at all,and I do like Portman, but the whole story seemed White-Trashish.I didnt hate the film, and she didnt do a "Bad" job,but it could have been alot better.I think she just needs to choose better films.
I do view her as very genuine as mentioned before.
