I've heard that local movie theatres have to have multiple subs. How many exactly? (and im talking about the big state of the art theatres...) I also heard they can't dip to such low frequencies as good home theatre subs. Is that true?
I was looking in the klipsch website and found some theatre subs, man they're huge! i wonder how those would perform at home...

also, where are they placed in a theatre? are they all behind the screen?

I don't know eactly, but I wouldn't be surprised if the big theaters have well over a dozen of the high efficiency 18" pro drivers in use.

And yes it is very true that a larger theatre will not have anywhere near the last octave response of a good home theatre (there may be a select few exceptions to this though, but not many). A theater is just too large and those big 18" pro drivers don't have much for below 30hz response.
