Not sure where to start this thread...

In November, my wife and I will be taking our second cruise celebrating our 3 year anniversary. On board the new Carribean Princess ship is a first for any cruiseline. A 300 square foot LED screen over one of the pools that will be used to show poolside movies at night.

Here is a link to the press release:

I thought it was a neat idea and worth sharing. I can't wait to see how it looks and what kind of setup they will have. Please, oh please, let it be OAR [IMG]

    Whats its native resolution?
    Is it 16:9 or 4:3?
    Whats its contrast ratio rating?

Nick needs to stay in school, so he can brush up on his reading comprehension skills. 300ft^2 is not 300 foot wide (unless it's 1 foot tall).

Would that screen be the ultra-ultra-ultra widescreen version? [IMG]

I just got back from a 5-day cruise on Royal Carribean's "Majesty of the Seas" and there was a Cinema on Deck 2. I was really excited before we boarded, but it ended up being a a really out of focus front projection CRT with dominant greens puking up a 4:3 image for every show. Oh, yeah. Two Peavey loudspeakers was it for sound. No surround at all.[IMG]

I can imagine the howls of protests if this were to happen on the Home Theater Cruise, and how many volunteers would step forward to correct the situation. [IMG]

You're neglecting the fact that several of the CRT boys would have brought their 9" CRTs along with them in their suitcases and would be ready to stack them to solve any problems that might occur.

    Maybe it's a 300 foot square? [IMG] 4x4 (or 1:1)? [IMG]

That would make it a 15'x20' screen if it's in the 4x3 aspect ratio. That's pretty much the type of screen you would find at sporting events and at Las Vegas sports books.

Don't worry. I'm sure we'll find something wrong with it. [IMG]

I wonder if they'll allow people to propose their own movie suggestions?

    UPDATE!

The Caribbean Princess is headed towards Fort Lauderdale, her home port. The live webcam shows an HDTV aspect ratio screen for the display over the pool!! They're actually showing something on it right now.

When my wife and I took our honeymoon Caribbean cruise on the "Sky Princess" we went down to the ship's theater to watch a movie with John Candy, the title escapes me. The theater was in the bowels of the ship and had to be below the water line. The theater was an equal to any of the smaller ones in a typical cineplex, however being beneath the water line, the place was extremely COLD!!!! Hopfully, your movie viewing experience will be more pleasant. Overall, the cruise was fantastic. Enjoy.

When I went on the cruise, I was excited when I read in one of their flyers that there was suppose to be a theater show(I remember it being some cartoon, but films are films to me). I guess they changed their mind at the last minute, because there was no movie and I was the only one in the theater waiting.
