Understatement of the year! :) And please note: it comes from Warners, those people who, we are constantly told, have no interest in back catalog films.

And a COMPLETE one, too! Pre-ordered, this one's a no-brainer for me. I've loved this gem ever since I can remember.

"Chins up Cora, both of them!"

"What a LOVELY pahty!"

"Did you ever see a horse laugh?"

"It WASN'T for character"

"Get off me you Park Avenue playgirl I know a lot more words than you do!"

"So help me I'm gonna slug you"

"Am I gonna find anything in that icebox of yours? Yeah, cobwebs and a bottle of gin"

"My little sister's not doing well. What's she got, a hangover?"

"LA PUBLICEEETAAAAYYYYYY!!"

"I was half way down that Alp before I realized Gustav didn't love me anymore"

"Johnnie says he'd like to do Sylvia's nails right down to the wrist with a big buzz saw"

"Yip a Ty Yy Yippee Yippee Ay daahling!"

and, of course...

"JUNGLE RED!!!"

sigh...I could go on for PAGES...

Please keep going for pages. Better quotes from this film than ALL ABOUT EVE.

My favorite:

"The first man who can think up a good explanation how he can be in love with his wife and another woman is going to win that prize they're always giving out in Sweden."

One of 1939's TEN Academy Award nominees for Best Picture!!! Pre-ordered it thru Ron's link!!!
Um...no, it wasn't, but maybe it should have been! For the record, they were:

Gone With the Wind (obviously the winner)
Dark Victory
Goodbye, Mr. Chips
Love Affair
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Ninotchka
Of Mice and Men
Stagecoach
The Wizard of Oz
Wuthering Heights

It's amazing how one year can be filled with so many incredible films.

This looks to be the DVD redone as Blu-Ray. I hope they fix the jittery camera at the beginning of the confrontation scene in the dressing room. I've noticed it's not jumpy when it shows on TCM.
"I Can Dream Can't I" Department-would love to see the TV version from 1955 as an extra. It exists in b&w but was originally in color:

Mary Boland reprised her Countess & Paulette Goddard played Sylvia.

As this is the 75th anniversary of 1939 acknowledged as the greatest year in motion picture history I am surprised more isn't being done this year to get those films on blu. So far we have Wizard of Oz(again) , Gone With The Wind (again), The Women, and maybe Wuthering Heights., Drums Along The Mohawk ( From Twilight Time)
Stagecoach is currently available from Criterion. Where is everything else?

I have been going back and forth whether to buy this blindly.

Went ahead and preordered.

Have heard nothing but great things about this film from
HTF members over the years.
