Great news! I first saw alll but the first on TV late one night age about 8. Took me some time to find out the name (no Internet) and years to see it.

I have now seen it in a new 35mm print, own the DVD, and will soon have a Blu-Ray.

The perfect noire.

This is a movie that had me literally on the edge of my seat....until the final scene. Terrific filmmaking ruined by the Hays Code.

Interesting comments...I liked the whole film...including the ending. I've been looking forward to an actual blu-ray ever since it was announced over a year ago.

I can still remember the first time I saw this, late night on TV, & I for one was SO relieved at the ending...& Dan Duryea was always such a brilliant baddie.

I don’t recall ever seeing this but having recently watched Kino’s excellent SCARLET STREET I’m looking forward to it. There seem to be conflicting opinions on which is the better film.

The two films, both excellent, go together but Scarlet Street is more ruthless and unflinching.

Mathematical Quiz:

Fritz Lang + Edward G. Robinson = Cinema Magic

and...

Fritz Lang + Joan Bennett = Cinema Magic

Does it follow that...

Edward G. Robinson = Joan Bennett ?

that's a good algebraic equation but i don't think it works

i would say Ewd. G Robinson > Joan Bennett, because i factored the following and this is because of personal prefrences

Little Caeser
Double Indiminity
The Sea Wolf
Key Largo
The Woman in the Window
Scarlet Street
The Ten Commandments
Mackenna's Gold
Soylent Green

but then that's the answer i came up with i am sure that there may be a different solution to the problem

by the way this was a no brainer on the pre-order :D

No, because you missed out the two other elements in the equation: Dan Duryea and Milton Krasner :).

Incorrect. They simply cancel out of both sides of the original equation:

Fritz Lang + Edward G. Robinson + (Dan Dureya + Milton Krasner) = Cinema Magic

and...

Fritz Lang + Joan Bennett + (Dan Dureya + Milton Krasner) = Cinema Magic

still leading to...

Edward G. Robinson = Joan Bennett

[We can test this by eliminating all other variables - i.e.:

Fritz Lang + Joan Bennett - (EG Robinson + Dan Dureya + Milton Krasner) = Cinema Magic

refer to Man Hunt and Secret Beyond the Door
