    Man, tough crowd.

Re: MGM and Warner - the digital release is listed as Warner and it's Movies Anywhere enabled (MGM is not part of MA).

Everything I can find says Warner's owns the copyright to it.

I was just making light of Bill's reporting the obvious about a 4K disc coming.:)

Techincally the copyright holder is Warner's subsidiary Turner Entertainment. MGM sold off its pre-1986 backlog to Turner in 1986, and Turner eventually merged with WarnerMedia. After 1986, due to contractual obligations with CBS, MGM did continue to hold TV rights until after CBS' deal had finally expired, so the remaining rights went to Turner. So any current release of "Oz" would be with Warner.

Can someone who owns it in 4K confirm whether or not it has been dropped back to HD? Because as far as I can tell, the 4K version has been yanked.

Yup, it was in Dolby Vision this morning and is now in HD. Not surprising as you stated and why I checked it earlier this morning. At least, I watched the entire film yesterday and will do so again in October.:)

Also, it's still listed as a 4K HDR title in the AppleTV app., but will only play in HD.

Robert, that's typical behavior. The AppleTV App stores information which is often stale. At some point your app will refresh with current data. A lot of time when stuff gets bumped up to 4K it will take a while before my ATV apps show that information.

I know, but it played in 4K/Dolby Vision yesterday on The AppleTV App. I'm pretty sure that Warner wasn't happy with this early release and let Apple know it.

I probably should, but I gift myself so it would be hard to explain.;) I'm hoping it will change back to 4K in October.

I believe that Turner actually extended the Wizard of Oz on CBS deal in exchange for Turner getting 'Gone With The Wind" back sooner. CBS signed a 20 year deal with MGM to broadcast "Gone With The Wind" in 1978.
Turner wanted it back to launch TNT in 1988 and TCM in 1994. So CBS gave up TV rights to "Gone With The Wind" for more "Wizard of Oz" . "The Wizard of Oz " was last broadcast on CBS in 1998.

I can speculate what happened. The 4K digital file is obviously finished and has been supplied to digital retailers. For brand new releases, retailers know that they can't break the street date. iTunes assumed that since The Wizard of Oz was already out, there was no harm in upgrading their file now, but then found out otherwise! :D

Yep, same with my 4K purchase. What's the best way to get a refund from Apple?

Again, here's a perfect illustration of something that sucks about streaming. Content can be changed at any time, even on a previously purchased title.
