Come on Universal, we need need a new special edition of the classic musical "The Wiz" (1978)! Michael Jackson's been in the news a lot lately (and Diana Ross to a lesser degree), plus with the film's 25TH ANNIVERSARY this year, isn't it a good time to re-release this cult hit on DVD?

Does anyone else want this movie in a better edition than the bare-bones release that is available now? Any other enthusiastic fans out there? [IMG]

Given the rather notorious circumstances that have seen both Michael Jackson and Diana Ross in the spotlight recently, I'm not sure any studio would want to promote a title starring either one at the present time.

As much as I admire Sidney Lumet, this has got to be perhaps the most STATIC movie musical ever made--the camera just SITS there during ALL the musical numbers--Michael Jackson was quite attractive, though, before he destroyed his face.

I doubt we'll see a new version of the film as the current edition is just now getting a price drop and, to be honest, the film isn't considered a classic by any stretch of the imagination.

I like it a lot, though, just for its weirdness. Freaky film.

For the record, and for what it's worth, the present edition does contain a 12 minute featurette from 1978. It isn't mentioned on the box art, but it's there.

I loved this flick as a kid. Nowadays... well, let's just say I changed my mind. Still, I'd be interested to see a special edition of it - it'd be fun to revisit the film if the set packed serious extras...
