When I saw that picture the first thing that popped in my head was: "well not really, it has the same running time so there really isn't more movie..." [IMG]

The best campaign would be to take a still from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and show Wonka's "half" office.

Digitally insert a TV with a widescreen image.

Wonka: "Well, all the halfing gets monotonus!"

    I like this idea! [IMG]
Replace the word "movie" with "image", make versions with the correct percents for each AR, and HTFers could just go through stores and sticker 'em onto the proper packages! [IMG]

I think all these efforts to "lure J6P's away from P&S" are ill-conceived.

For one, full screen generally actually offers more picture than letterbox when it comes to 1.85:1 movies like A.I. and some Super 35 movies, and J6P's either know this already or they're bound to find out.

For another, who says everyone should like the same thing? I say, let's stop playing aspect ratio police.

Let's go back to DVD editions that offer both an OAR and 4:3 versions of the film, and let everyone decide what they want to watch. This is how most DVD's seemed to be made in the beginning, and over time more and more studios have moved away from that practice (and some, mercifully, have gone back).

For me, the most important thing is not to convince the world that my preference for OAR is the right and only way to see a movie, but not to lose the availability of movies in their OAR.

If this means making room for the J6P's to have a full-screen version of the movie on the same DVD, then so be it! Let them decide which version is best when they have both to compare.
