According to www.imdb.com this movie was presented in "Western Electric Multi-Track Magnetic Stereophonic" sound. The region 2 dvds are 2.0 stereo and the old laserdisc is PCM stereo. This, at least, would have made a decent 4.0 DD soundtrack (hell I'll take 2.0). Instead the U.S.A. gets M.O.N.O. Just curious.

M.O.N.O. - what's that! [IMG] (Mono is short for monophonic.)

Yeah it ain't stereo, but it looks nice at least.

Better than the 1.85:1 print I saw screened at a convention a couple years ago [IMG] (This film is academy ratio).

It may be academy ratio but at least 30% of the film image is cropped off. Look at the real change marks and where they are. The laser disc had a 2 channel built from a mono signal, many of the sounds seem to come from the wrong side of the picture. I wish P'mount would correct their ways and give us accurate audio and video on these old George Pal films an give us his other two, The Conquest of Space and The Naked Jungle.
