I was in a local electronics store and noticed what seemed to be a new version of Monty Python's Life Of Brian. I checked the back and it contained the documentary "the pythons" and boasted a new HD transfer aswell as a DD 5.1 soundtrack. The only thing that was missing is the Criterion Commentary.

So whats the difference if there is one in PQ or SQ?
I would really like to know.

Wow, didn't hear about that either, apparently released 2 weeks ago. I have the Criterion version, and IMO the transfer of the feature is no hell, and either is the sound, though lots better than the other version I've seen. I very much doubt this is a totally new release though, considering how little publicity it got compared to MOL and HG when they got new releases. I may be wrong of course...but I can't find much info on this. I've already sunk enough $$ into this title, so don't want to buy it until I know it's definitely better.

They may just be putting it out, or printing a bunch more due to Meaning of Life coming out and hoping more will buy both.

Holy Grail is getting a repackaging too soon.

^ I believe it's a Canada only release by Columbia.

Has anyone checked out this disc? According to a store in Ontario Life Of Brian CC is OOP, ????
I don’t think the information is correct, because I haven’t heard anything about L.O.B CC being OOP or rare. Can anyone confirm?

I don't think it's the CC one you got...I checked amazon.ca last week before making my previous post...$25.99 was the price for the "new" version, which has the same front cover as the CC one, minus the CC top bar. If it has the same content as the CC one, or mostly the same, IMO it's a good deal in comparison. Do let us know though...

It has everything EXCEPT the commentary. BUT I was wondering in the audio/video depo. If there was any improvements.

It was the Criterion, I was watching it for a price fall.

    I got for 25.99

They had it for 1 week at that price, when universal released there version.

    or they mis-priced it.

Anyway when it arrives i will post to let you know if indeed it is the Criterion Edition as there site says it is!

Funny how he always called it, "The Hunt For The Holy Grail". Well I think I'll just stick with the Criterion. Good luck in your sale and I hope you got the correct version!

I wonder if the guy who wrote the review for the "new" version has seen the Criterion version. The CC is also a generally lousy transfer and even worse audio, with quite a bit of distortion in some places. The PQ varies hugely throughout the feature, but it's still the best available for home. So when they say this CTS is a "new" transfer, they possibly mean compared to the previous non-CC release. You have to remember, this is a Canada-only release, and Criterions are not generally distributed in Canada. Or else they just copied the material off the CC version (like the rest of the package artwork), since it sounds like that's where this transfer comes from.
