Since they haven't been mentioned yet, I'd like to add these games, too:

Xenogears (PSX)

Seiken Densetsu 3 (SFC, a.k.a., Secret of Mana 2)

Okay, here's my top ten.

1. Chrono Trigger (SNES)

2. Super Metroid (SNES)

3. Chrono Cross (PSX)

4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSX)

5. Resident Evil 2 (DC)

6. Super Mario 64 (N64)

7. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)

8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

9. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)

10. Silent Hill (PSX)

As much as I love some of the old 2600 games, none of the really stand up too well. I do have a 2600 (original one I had when I was a kid) and about 80 cartridges, and they still worked about 6 months ago.

Maybe someone should make a list of all the nominated games (alphabetical, maybe even by console) so we can see which ones have been nominated?

Thanks Marvin, I was about to do that myself. I'll try to talk to the administrators to see if we can get an official status on this. Keep em coming.

Now I think I understand the term "fanboy." Have you at least tried a non-Nintendo system?
heh... yes, I am the ultimate Nintendo "fanboy" ;) I just call it 'customer loyalty'... I have and always will stick with Nintendo just because I like their games. I respect those who like Microsoft or Sony... I think it is just a "whatever floats your boat" situation when it comes to consoles. Nintendo has always been the true innovator in my mind though :)

Okay,here are my choices...(don't laugh)

In no particular order:

Grand Theft Auto III (PS2)

Soul Calibur (DC)

Metal Gear Soild (PSX)

I know we are not supposed to bump but I think this thread should stay alive until we get a good bit of feedback....

thanks for taking care of the thread folks. I just wanted to know what you guys thought, should we include individual games or a series? For example, in nomination of, say, a Madden game, should the series or the individual game be nominated? I was thinking about this the other day, and thought how each new Madden was only an improvement with graphics and gameplay. Just a thought. What do you guys think?

Individual games. Some years the quality seemed to peak, or take a turn, then the next it seemed to only slighty improve.

Take Tony Hawk. The first was great, but two so surpassed the first in every way, that it was like a fully realized experince. Though Tony Hawk 3 rendered 2 unplayable, it wasn't the leap that 2 was from 1.

Same with NFL2k series. I'd nominate NFL2K over NFL2K1 (though I didn't, as I see as I'm typing this) because NFL2K was such a breath of fresh air, and 2K1 wasn't as shocking.

So, individual games instead of series, I'd say.

Since we are still a few titles short of a complete shortlist, here are my nominations of unlisted games, in the order I think of them; some of what I would nominate has already been mentioned. Oh, and Combat (one of the games I would probably put) doesn't have 2600 beside it, if you're listing console - I was about to vote for it myself. Also, wipEout XL is the US alternate name for wipEout 2097, which is a PS game.

Grand Theft Auto (PS)

Metropolis Street Racer (DC)

wip3out (PS)

R-Type (PC-Engine)

Vib Ribbon (PS)

Super Monkey Ball (GC)

Mr. Driller (DC)

Bangai-O (DC)

Phantasy Star Online (DC)

Chu-Chu Rocket (DC)

I have to throw in some of my own:

Samurai Shodown 2 (Neo-Geo)

Samurai Shodown 3 (Neo-Geo)

Rock and Roll Racing (SNES)

Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty (PS2)

Einhander (PS1)

Ogre Battle (PS1) (although I know it was originally SNES)

Metal Slug X (Neo-Geo)

Should help to fill out the list quota.
