When I was looking for Close Encounters of the Third Kind on DVD, I saw that there are 2 versions of the Collector's Edition. 1 released in 2001, and 1 in 2003. Is one different than the other? Is the new version simply a repackaged 2001 release? Which should I get?

    Thanks in advance!

    Just looked over at Amazon.

The 2001 version has all the extras and is a 2 disc release where the 2002 one is one disc with no extras (even though the 2002 one has DTS).

I should buy the 2 disc version one of these days.

Buy the 2 disc release. The one WITHOUT the kid on the cover. It has DTS, and some serious rock n' roll martian extras.

Definately get the two disc version. It is known as "The Collector's Edition" It has DTS and the second disc has an approx 1:45 documentary on it which is very valuable, deleted scenes, including the "Inside the Spaceship" scene, a short featurette, trailers and some cast/crew info.

The single disc edition is just disc one.

The Japanese Superbit offers much better PQ and the fine DTS track. The movie is splitt across 2 discs to keep the higher average bitrate. Though it looses all the extras.

    Isn't the 2-disc version OOP?

OOP doesn't mean "out of stock". Only that it will be out of stock some day...soon [IMG].

Pick it up while you can. If you are a fan of CE3K, you will regret not being able to get the 2-Disc version should it not be available anymore
