Last night I watched TT's blu-ray of the 1987 thriller Black Widow. I have to admit, I was curious about this movie 30 year ago, but it sounded so trashy ("She mates, and then she kills" was the over-the-top tagline) that I was too embarrassed to see it. Anyway, I've finally seen it now, and I feel mixed about it. I loved the location photography in Hawaii, including some places I've been. The two stars are also very good. It was the screenplay I had issues with, which I felt was quite vague on one very important point. I think those of you who've seen the movie will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the best part of the release for me was the insightful and sometimes funny commentary and banter between Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman.

Does Twilight Time still put out classics? Haven't had anything catch my eye since Born Free, I think. Not sure if I'm just not looking at the right places and had some slip by me from Hollywood's Golden Age, or if they're just concentrating on more contemporary releases?

Was happy to see Baby Boom appear a while back, but anything after 1970 is a modern movie in my book.

This week we had the following pre-1970 titles come up for pre-order: THE LONG, HOT SUMMER, SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER and KID GALAHAD. Last month, I received the new release of STATE FAIR. I don't see any lack of classic releases, even if they are increasing their output of newer titles.

Next order is planned for my credit card's next billing cycle. The list:

Kid Galahad (1962)
State Fair (1962)
Suddenly Last Summer (1959)

I have this sudden urge to sing out a Martha Vandelis and The Motels tune.

I believe that this film had a very troubled production that ended up with the film heavily edited from the original vision.

This is our first ever Sony / Columbia sale - the 45 titles we have left in print - sale will be at both www.screenarchives.com and www.twilighttimemovies.com - previous sales data indicates that our Sony titles sell faster than any other of the studios from which we license - 34 of the 84 SOLD OUT blu-ray titles to date are from that studio - we expect several to sell out in this sale period so don't delay if there are one or two you are on the fence about!

Is La Bamba really sold out or is it just an error?

As far as I can tell there have never been any low quantity alerts given on it.
Are there any others that are currently on life support other than your last update in June or is this a new policy about not alerting people to upcoming sell-outs?

Last list I can find
BONJOUR TRISTESSE - fewer than 150 units remaining
MINDWARP - fewer than 250 copies remaining
RAPTURE - fewer than 300 copies remaining
FOLLOW THAT DREAM - fewer than 300 units remaining
CONRACK - fewer than 300 units remaining
MISSISSIPPI BURNING - fewer than 300 copies remaining (stock for this title is only available at twilighttime)
DESIREE - fewer than 350 units remaining
GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER - fewer than 350 units remaining
BELOVED INFIDEL - fewer than 350 units remaining
PONY SOLDIER - fewer than 400 units remaining
MISSISSIPPI MERMAID - fewer than 400 units remaining
MAN IN THE DARK 3D - fewer than 400 copies remaining
THE MAN FROM LARAMIE - fewer than 400 copies remaining
ROOTS OF HEAVEN - fewer than 450 units remaining
HOMBRE - a few hundred copies remaining (stock for this title is only available at twilighttime)
FUNNY LADY - listed as low quantity at SAE, number remaining unknown

I must have been asleep . . . or perhaps I'm asleep right now! . . . but I didn't know Hour of The Gun was coming. This is very much a film which divides lovers of Westerns: some love it and some hate the film. I love it and I'll pre-order this disc at the earliest possible moment.

For those not in the know: Hour Of the Gun was directed by John Sturges, photographed by Lucien Ballard and edited by Ferris Webster. All three master craftsmen were on top form when they worked on this film. If you want to see how gunfights in movies should be staged and cut, this film provides a master class.

I think my misconception primarily happened because my interest is so centered around the period from the mid to late 1930's through the 1940's. I count a bit over a dozen in that group that I'd realize what they were by title alone, so many of these probably slipped by unnoticed by me since I just didn't know what they even were.

I'm glad to see just how mistaken I was and that Twilight Time has been busy in this area this year.
