I know what your referring to as I noticed the same thing, however I also noticed that you also lost some detail with the transfer being darker like in the Rhino release, the backgrounds and skyscapes tended to get lost and shadow detail wasn't as high.

If it's any consolation, according to Flint Dille on the commentary track (which is excellent BTW, very entertaining and informative), he states that this new DVD transfer rivals even the old theatrical prints!

On another note, it's rather cold when you find out precisley why Optimus Prime and the other G1 Autobots and Decepticons were killed off in the film. :frowning: This may prove to be one of my all time favorite DVD's for this year and i'm also looking foreward to the reissue of the G1 series next year, I missed them the first time around but to borrow some dialogue from Megatron they shall not escape my grasp this time MUWAHAHAH!

Sorry. ;)

so far ive onlyfound one on the fullscreen dvd i just got it today tho. on the main menu click on the autobot or decepticon logo when it appears. in the bonus features theres 2 easter eggs. i dont know how to get to them as i was just pressing the up down left and right arrows randomly. and it goes to one of the 2 invisible symbols on top of the bonus features menu. for the widescreen disc i can only find clicking on the autobot or decepticon logo on the main menu

Yep just like Dannie said. Click on the autobot symbol in the main menu and it shows you a bunch of the Japanese toy commercials.

I've only messed with the DVD on my laptop since I'm at work. Can anyone tell me how good/bad the bass is?

No lenticular cover on the Canadian version (booo!) but this is still a cracking little package. The film looks and sounds good, although the audio is begging for a bit more oomph, and the extras - for what is ostensibly an 80-minute toy advert ;) - are superb.

A list of Easter Eggs from tfans.com:

Costco apparently has this bundled with a third Disc that contains the More Than Meets The Eye Pilot Mini-Series.

Obviously, these don't represent the full image quality, but I figured they may be usefull for the purposes of colour/framing comparison.

Very cool, Antony, thanks for posting those! :emoji_thumbsup:

I have to say looking at those screencaps that while I appreciate the accuracy of colors and the higher light level of the 20th anniversary DVD, I actually prefer the richness and warmth of the colors in the Rhino release.

But this new transfer is more accurate and it is in it's OAR so i'll never look upon this transfer with anything but thankful eyes.

BTW, does anyone know where I can view a complete catalog of the character illustrations that are featured on each menu screen? Those illustrations of the characters are very cool and I would like to see them all. I know that they came from a book but is that book still in print?

In some of those comparisons, the widescreen version looks the worst of the bunch. Hot Rod is supposed to be red, isn't he?

A quick sidenote, check this out, guys, it's the 20th anniversary reissue of Optimus Prime to coincide with the DVD release, I may have to ask for this for Christmas (yes, i'm aware of how old I am ;))...

He also comes with the Matrix of Leadership that can be placed inside of his chest but it strangly isn't pictured, there's also no trailer but i'd keep him in robot form anyway. He's gonna look sweet standing on my shelf. :)

I have a version of that from 2004 (20th ann. of TF show). It is pretty frickin sweet.

The differences:

Gun is black
Battle scoring on the radiator grill in robot mode
No base to stand on.

The little blue switch on the top of the cab is to activate a light that makes the Matrix glow in his chest...he has to be in robot mode with his chest open to see it. The Matrix also comes out, opens up (like in the Movie) and can be held in Prime's hands. The fact that he has independent fingers and thumbs is really cool.

I was looking forward to this release but was really disappointed in the quality. Any scene with Unicron attacking anything is a pixalated mess. I am only watching it on a 34" widescreen tube TV. It really must look awful on a bigger screen. Certain scenes border on unwatchable.

In the beginning where the one guy is shouting, "Get to the ships, it is our only chance". The strobe light effects and all the debris flying, it looks terrible. When Hot Rod is in the water fighting off the fish and he is struggling is another really bad part. Watch them carefully, it looks really really bad.

Well I'll be damned. Don't know how I didn't catch that on first viewing:

The screencaps sorta smooth it over there on that last one, too.

Thanks for the screen shots Robert. It was a big disappointment to me to see this. Akira has this sort of detail and yet looks rock solid.
