Just wondering...has the official press release been released for this set? Not sure if it has been or not, but hoping we finally get all the necessary details to this Blu-Ray set in the next week or so. Still not giving up hope just yet, you never know.

It's also very odd they add Besser box art to volume 4. Barring any content changes, that disc doesn't even have Besser content, just features with DeRita as the third Stooge.

Joe Besser wasn't featured on any of the other cover pieces so it was clearly an oversight that someone caught and corrected.

They could have put him on the 3rd case, which actually features his work (unlike the fourth one, barring a content change).

It's still odd though, if he's only in two Stooges shorts in the set. To do that and then include all his solo shorts as extras is just weird.

But then, the Ultimate Collection includes all four of Joe De Rita's solo Columbia shorts and only one feature film with him in it.

It’s probably contractual. His likeness needs to be there. And if not contractual it’s the right thing to do anyway

I would be surprised if it was contractual. For films made before 1960 the actors didn't get residuals when the films aired on TV. I think when negotiating a contract money would have been more important to an actor then making sure their picture was on the cover of something that was not even an idea when the contract was signed. If anything, it may be just the opposite with the studio having to pay to use a likeness of the actor on the cover. The idea being you have to pay me if you want to use my picture to sell your product. However I doubt the studio would pay if that was the case.

Ok. Then it’s probably that someone involved on the Sony or the Stooges side thought it was just the right thing to do (which it is. )

When Moe demonstrates a few pinches and pokes on Larry, it's interesting how these lose practically all of their impact without the accompanying sound effects we're accustomed to hearing. I saw this cast of the Stooges in person at an amusement park north of Boston in my childhood. Before they arrived, an unseen sound person was testing a sound effects generator plugged into the sound system. We could hear the drum sound for when Curly Joe took a punch to the belly and the slap and boink sounds that went with hits to the face and head. The effects person had some sort of console with keys he'd press for the appropriate sound while watching for Moe's attacks - all scripted and rehearsed I'm sure. It was a kid's thrill of a lifetime when the Stooges arrived in a limo. I remember being surprised at how short they were.

Now I understand if he was referring to the MGM shorts, that would make sense to the rights issues, he mentions, but Sony should have the rights to all 190 Columbia shorts, but the extra 20 is some better news, indeed.

There are only 100 Stooges shorts included in the upcoming Sony Three Stooges Blu-ray set. The remaining 20 this guy is talking about are NOT stooge shorts but shorts featuring Shemp and Joe Besser as solo artists, which, I think is a waste of time to be included in a stooge's set. I still want to see them...just not in this set.

I would highly doubt it. This box set IS the Stooges physical media statement. It's pricey as it is and if it did contain EVERYTHING it would be VERY pricey and really only for completists. I would be happy with it. If you're dying for The Yokes on Me (which is truly awful as comedy and having nothing to do w the stereotypes) it's available on DVD.

I would have preferred Columbia to give us chronological Blu's as they did with the DVD sets.
Or they could have done a Curly Stooges comprehensive set, and a 'everyone else' comprehensive box set, to include the films and rarities. This just seems like they cut the 'trigger-inducing' politically incorrect shorts and then, having run out of room, decided to Ginsu the Shemp, Besser and DeRita catalog to where it's just token add-ons.

While Curly is undeniably my favorite, I also really enjoyed Shemp, because he wasn't trying to be a Curly knock-off, but a legit third stooge. So, missing the bulk of his stuff is a real downer. Also, most will agree, when the stooges turned to making feature-length movies at the tail end of their career, most were not good at all. Would have easily sacrificed these to have all the Curly and Shemp classics intact.

Oh well. Can't have everything. And, for those desiring it, there's always the DVD sets. PS - one of my all-time favorites, "What's the Matador?" didn't make the cut. Sacrilege! Plain and simple. "Hello!"

I have preordered this new blu-ray collection and I am very much looking forward to watching it. I have not owned much of the Stooges except one DVD with a few shorts on it. I can not wait for it to arrive!

Still sad they're going this route and not offering the complete series of shorts, no matter how good or bad they might have been, but this now clears up what they're finally going to be releasing on this set and to each their own, if they want to invest their monies into this project. Just disappointed in this effort by Sony.
