When I was a kid I knew who Fred and Ginger were, but I had no interest in a "dancing" movie.

I recently watched Swing Time on the Criterion Channel.

    Wow.

It was snappy and funny with plenty of great 30s screwball comedy dialogue. And I even was amazed and entertained by the dancing and music.

I plan on watching the Gay Divorcee next.

Well, this morning, I watched my Criterion disc of "Night Train to Munich" and during my screening I had some recent recollections of watching this Blu-ray beforehand.:)

Are they showing Orson's Mr. Arkadin (aka Confidential Report) on the Criterion Channel?

Night Train to Munich is no longer on The Criterion Channel. I was very upset about this as I really wanted to see it. May have to wait for a sale to buy it at a future time.

Next choice was RAN. I have to say, it was a struggle to get through and I gave up after an hour. I have seen THE SEVEN SAMURAI and really enjoyed it, but this was a snoozer. I am going to resume the second hour of this feature in another day. I promise!

Mr. Hulot's Holiday will be after that, if it is on the channel.

I have seen THE AFRICAN QUEEN many times. The Hitch-Hiker will be a film I'll watch towards the weekend.

For anyone contemplating buying The Third Man, avoid the "Studio Canal" region B Blu-ray. Although the image is beautifully sharp, the sound is compressed and distorted.

    I thought I purchased this but apparently I didn’t.

    Which version should I buy?

Is the iTunes version with extras sufficient?

I have both BD releases, but prefer the "Studio Canal" Blu-ray. This is the first I heard severe criticism of the audio.

I have the Criterion BD release. Is that the other BD release you own, Robert? If so, why do you prefer the Studio Canal version? I have never seen that version, so I am just curious.

Tino, this is the one to buy, the cover looks like this and has that "stunning 4K restoration" wording on it:

    blu the third man.

Studio Canal has released this more than once and the older versions are still for sale. You want to avoid those and purchase this one. I am not sure but I think the gentleman above that mentions the sound may have one of the older Studio Canal discs. This is the cover you need to look for. It is currently a little over 12 pounds at Amazon UK.

Yes, I have the 2008 Criterion BD along with the Studio Canal BD derived from a 4K restoration. The latter looks better to my old eyes.

Reggie is right, there was a 2010 BD Release from Studio Canal. The Studio Canal BD I have was released in 2015.

Good to know. I have the Studio Canal release. Their Elephant Man looks very good to me.

One more thing about "The Third Man" 2015 Studio Canal BD release. The Blu-ray itself will play on Region A players. It's the DVDs in the four-disc set that are Region 2.

Yes, there are actually several Studio Canal releases of this with different covers. Avoid them all except the one with the cover I have posted as this is the only one that contains the restoration. It tops the Criterion blu which was made years prior to this 2015 restoration. When this first came out it came in a 4 disc set, which is now out of print and going for big money, but the single disc version can be had for a song and IT IS REGION FREE!

Again though, avoid all the Studio Canal discs except the one with the cover I posted.

Oops. It turns out I have the wrong one. It's a previous Studio Canal release I got before the restored one.

I guess I'm not allowed to watch it.

Re the Studio Canal disc with the bad audio, I just read the fine print on the label. Mine is an Australian edition. It appears to have the restored image but really bad sound.

I just tested the Australian pressing. It's locked region B.
