Exclusive: News On The 1982 Remake Of The Thing - Movie News - Latest Movie Reviews and trailers

Producer Marc Abraham:

*****

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

"These are the events leading up to the 1982 film."

*****

I love the original "The Thing (1982)" (it´s a undisputed horror masterpiece), so this (prequel) doesn´t sound that bad... Then again, CGI would ruin this in a heartbeat.. Imagine some silly computer-created creature bouncing on the walls etc. Huu, scary.

IMO we still have hope, though (for this "new" film).

Here's the plot:

Norwegian scientists go to the arctic to study glaciers. They do this for 90 minutes, then find a mysterious object buried in the ice. THE END.

:P

To me, the 1982 film used the original (The Thing From Outer Space) as the prequel to their story, except making them Norwegions. Nonetheless, I'll wait for the DVD on this one.

Yeah, just not getting the prequel designation on this. Kurt Russel's character is born. He eventually becomes a scientist and gets his helicopter pilot's license. Maybe he flies in Vietnam during the war (uhm, police action! police action!). After his honorable discharge he's hired by an organization planning an operation in the arctic. Then...what Russell G said.

This is something that really worries me. I mean real "R-rated horror", monsters and CGI just doesn´t mix. Or they *rarely* really work...

So they should definitely bring "KNB Efx Group" etc on board from the first day.. Or even Rob Bottin (does he still work?)..

I'm with the "this makes no sense" crowd. Seriously, the "events leading up to the film… in the same time frame" (which excludes the spaceship crash) are pretty much the outfitting of the expedition, right? I mean, if one of Them had shown up somewhere else, everybody would have known about it beforehand.

Hell, give me any monster movie where the monsters are physically in the film, and not added in later(after the actors have filmed their green screen bits).

Sigh.........:frowning:

Let's face it, if they make a great movie, it's a great idea. If they make a lousy movie, it's a lousy idea. We could probably have an interesting thread of movies that were thought to be very bad ideas before they were made.

That being said, since the 1982 version left things un-decided, a sequel makes more sense to me. It could be a sequel 25 years later or whenever. Wasn't the 1982 version made on a limited budget. It doesn't have the look of a movie that has had fistfuls of dollars thrown at the screen, and I mean that in the best sense. They should go for that in this prequel.

Until I actually smell the putrid stench of a bad movie, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Some good points there. I´m personally not "against" of any movie or remake, I´m totally used to them.

IMO, e.g. "The Hills Have Eyes (2006)" is a great horror-movie. I loved it. Then again "The Hills Have Eyes II (2007)" was very mediocre. So you never know... Not every "remake", "sequel", "prequel" or whatever is "bad". Or "truly horrible", like e.g. "The Fog (2005)"...

Prequel? Well the 1982 film did start off with the Norwegians trying to shoot the alien/dog and we did get to see the aftermath of their camp whatever it was so i suppose they can make a creepy 90min film of the first discovery of the saucer, the alien frozen in the ice, thawing, killing, taking over etc but I don't think the Norwegians spoke English in the 1982 film so expect plenty of subtitles. ;)

Or they could do something more unexpected, the alien blob whatever it is, saying goodbye to it's family, kissing the wife and kids, lifting off from the home planet and out to explore the universe, loses control of it's ship and crashes into our planet, freezes in the ice and thousands of years later it's thawed out and taken captive by some strange alien creatures, it tries to make contact but it's shot at and badly hurt, it escapes and wreaks havoc... they could always cut in flashbacks of the doomed alien in happier times on it's home planet.

Norwegian! :D

Anyway, Dark Horse comics did a good sequel to the Carpenter remake. Would make a good movie. But then again, the Dark Horse AvP comics would have been good movies too. But we didnt get anything as good as what they did.
