Making it a requirement on the players to have a 5.1
analog input on a receiver/prepro is perhaps the most
stupid thing the audio companies have done in the last
24 years (VHS being another one). All these people buying
receivers and prepros, manufacturers having to make provisions for 5.1 analog outputs on their products, all in
a forlorn attempt to keep digital streams of 5.1 out of
the manipulative hands of those awful "consumers."
Screw the entertainment companies, if I wanted to use
the crummy dacs in those units, then I'd just stick with
regular CD anyway.
When the entertainment morons finally reneg and offer
single-cable digital outputs, all those current 5.1
analog inputs on receivers and prepros will be as useful
as the telephone jack in your DIVX player. :)

Not sure which direction to take this one. Anyway, it doesn't take a large investment to get a CDP with a good DAC / analog output. Ditto for one with SACD capability. My prepro's DACs are quite good, and I still get mileage out of its stereo analog inputs (set to analog bypass).
IMO, the most compelling reason for digital out of the hi rez formats is to avoid dealing with the connectivity of two source players. I chose not to wait, as it could be a long one.
