I was doing a little internet searching for this mini-series that I only vaguely remember but would like to see again.

It seems there have been VHS boxsets in the past that you can get from ebay or elsewhere. Also, a PAL Region 2 DVD 3-disc set was released by Acorn in the UK in July 2007, although I can't find any reviews for it.

Now I also found this listing of a DVD available next week (02/19/08):

The Video Collection - The Strauss Family

DVD - A&E Home Video Titles - The Strauss Family

Those are the only two places I can find this item. I searched with the title, the UPC and the item number. I can't find it on Amazon, or even on www.storeaetv.com, A&E's own store website.

Is this a legitimate Region 1 release?

thanks.

I'd say it's a legitimate A&E release. It's listed at the Critic's Choice site also with the same ANE item number(ANE is in their item code for all A&E titles) and a close look at the box art shows the A&E logo at the bottom of the box.

Why doesn't it appear at the A&E site? The Video Collection, DeepDiscount, and Critic's Choice sites are all owned by the same company along with some other sites and some other PBS/BBC type paper catalogs. Maybe they have an exclusive on the first batch of this set being produced?

I am also sure it is legitimate. If it follows the also exclusive items from A and E, it will be watchable but not remasterted to current standards. I bought Disraeli ,Night of the fox and have ordered Strauss Family , the former are watchable as most BBC items are. As for Straus, even the VHS was grainy. I recommend that your expectations remain low and you will be pleasently surprised,
Best
