The problem with Hammer Horror titles making it to DVD has been that so many different studios were involved in releasing them to U.S. theaters. I listed the titles and which studio origianlly distributed them in the U.S. and which titles are on DVD. Also included is the company that released the DVD.

As you can see, there are still plenty of titles that need released. It appears that the original U.S. distributor must retain the video rights (unless given to Anchor Bay, or such). I also assume that Universal must have sold it's titles to Warners (anyone can chime in on this), obviously Fox has done a great job of at least allowing Anchor Bay to release. Columbia, Paramount,Universal(?) and Warner still have work to do.

Good job. But I'm not sure where you're going with this other than to point out what Hammer titles need to be released.

I think Universal still holds the rights to the films in question.

Universal really needs to start releasing their Hammer catalog. Brides of Dracula & Curse of the Werewolf are at the top of my most wanted Hammer list.

I have been trying to figure what is out and what is not. With such a large catalog I thought it might be helpful to someone else also. It also helps to see which studios are supporting their older catalogs and which are slow at releasing them. Perhaps nudging the slower studios might help, or supporting the ones, like Fox, who seem to at least care.

The Fox releases that are available on Anchor Bay DVD are films in which Fox has let their rights expire and didn't renew them.
The rights to these films reverted back to Hammer themselves and Hammer is responsible for licensing them to Anchor Bay, not Fox.

The list does not include the Hammer pirate films which I would also like to see released: PIRATES OF BLOOD RIVER, DEVIL SHIP PIRATES, THE CRIMSON BLADE. Rights are as far as I know still controlled by Columbia.

The only Hammer Film that Universal lost the rights to is HORROR OF DRACULA. Seven Arts acquired the rights to this and CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN in the mid-sixties. Seven-Arts merged with Warners in the early 70s, which lead to Warner's current ownership of the title.

Mark,
Do you have any time frame? Are these official announcements? Tis would be welcome news. There are a few now OOP, I chose not to include that info, because all of them are still readily available and were at least issued once.
Thanks,
Todd

Another classic scifi one you missed is the original Quatermass Xperiment which is not available in R1. This is being released next week in UK R2 PAL along with Quatermass 2 by DD Video. Extras for this seem to be same as Anchor Bay for Quatermass 2 but also includes extra interviews.

Todd,

I'm definitely interested in your efforts, and I appreciate them greatly. Perhaps once the topic has been throughly discussed in this thread, we can update your listing, and maybe even include it in one of the Home Theater Forum FAQs.

I wish I could contribute more, but I am very new to Hammer films, which, again, is why I am interested and appreciative of your efforts.

Thanks.

Todd,
I appreciate the hard work you put into this endeavor. BRIDES OF DRACULA and THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF are high on my wish list, as is NIGHT CREATURES(aka CAPTAIN CLEGG), which has never been released legitimately on any home video format. That was a favorite of mine as a kid; it was on the Saturday afternoon Creature Feature once every few months. Now it's next to impossible to see.

The new Journey to the Center of the Earth DVD has a trailer for this on it. I believe it's the only movie they show a trailer for (there are about 8 trailers for different FOX movies) that is not yet out in the format.

So, it can't be too far away.

many other classic titles like Terror of the Tongs and Stranglers of Bombay
I really struggled with the Stranglers of Bombay but agian its not a horror/sci-fi title. Hammer released all types of genre from detective noir type films, to spy, and historical pieces. I focused on the horror/sci-fi titles.
