Let’s look at The Stepfather. After getting his start in the waning drive-in circuit of filmmaking in the 1970’s, Joseph Ruben had his breakthrough film as a director with the cult sci-fi film Dreamscape (1984), which happened to be only the second PG-13 rated film to be released following the creation of the rating by the MPAA. For his follow-up to Dreamscape, Ruben turned to a real life horror story in fictionalized form, The Stepfather. Shout has previously released the film on both DVD and Blu-ray, but the studio has given the movie its UHD Blu-ray debut as part of their Scream Factory sublabel.
