Bada bing! Thanks, Gary. I've beeing waiting for this - but it's got to be the Blu-ray, which can't be far behind. Steep price, though. You can get all six seasons for less than that now. But with the extras and the Blu-ray ... it will be an offer we can't refuse.

That sounds pretty nice but like I said in the HD thread, I'm not buying these again on DVD when I've already got the individual seasons and I'm definitely going to buy them whenever they release the Blu-Ray series set or more season sets.

Given that only the most recent season was even released in an HD format at all, I'm betting it will indeed be very very far behind.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Barring an announcement for a Blu-Ray release of a season or series set for this fall, it will have been more than a year since Season Six Part Two came out.

I'm getting sick of these super special editions that come out after I have the entire series. I guess the choice is not to buy the series at all and hope that a complete collection comes out.

Of course, that kind of thinking doesn't help shows like NYPD Blue and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Hey, I'm bitter, ok?

I assume the three CDs in this set are the same as soundtracks 1 & 2 that came out circa 2000-2001, with the second being a double CD.

If the standard DVD box set is going to have an MSRP of $399.99 I'm absolutely frightened at what they would charge for the set on Blu-Ray.

You really are paying for the extras on this, because you can already get seasons 1-5 for $289 at Buy.com.

Sopranos (Complete Season 1-5) : DVD : James Gandolfini : Lorraine Bracco : Edie Falco : : HBO - Buy.com

I will hold out for the Blu-ray since this is a series that was originally shot in HD. There is a trend to sell box set DVDs for the same price as the Blu-ray. The box set of Mad Men released next week is selling for the same on both regular DVD and Blu-ray. Maybe, at this exorbatant price, that will hold true for The Sopranos. And I do suspect the Blu-ray will be out sooner than others have speculated on this thread. HBO will see what kind of bites they get for the regular DVD box set then, as soon as that tapers the slightest ... presto, the Blu-ray will be available. I'll bet it's already prepared.

I don't think they could have more than a $500 MSRP (or about $400 real dollars) for a Blu-Ray set just because anything more is too much for 99.999999999999999999% of consumers to even consider. And not that $400 is nothing but when you figure that HBO charges $130 MSRP on individual Blu-Ray sets and there's seven Sopranos sets, a $500 MSRP wouldn't be so bad. Of course, I think HBO will release the season sets before they do a series set anyway.

I don't have time to go double-check this right now (and if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will gleefully point it out to me), but I think the only studio which has done so is Lionsgate (first Weeds, now Mad Men). And those are items that roughly fall into the $30 price range, not like this huge mo'fo'!! :D

As great a show as the Sopranos is, and as important a show as it is to television history, the price on this is excessive. Yesterday, I saw the two volumes of season 6 on Blu Ray on the shelf in Best Buy (a store I do not frequent) for $110 EACH. That's $220 for 21 episodes! I know it's a hot show, but come on. Blu Ray is not going to take off until studios stop gouging fans for high def releases.

Assuming that you don't have any of the season sets, I think it's actually a pretty good deal. The first 5 season sets are now $60 MSRP and the S6 sets are $100 MSRP (for a total of $500 MSRP) so at $400 MSRP for the series set, HBO has actually knocked $100 off the price and added two discs. And since no one pays the MSRP, the 'real' price will probably be closer to $300 which is much better than what most people would have paid for the season sets as they came out.
