    The Santa Clause SE is missing a short scene around 6 min. into the movie...in the original release when Scott's ex-wife is getting ready to leave, she hands him a phone number where she can be reached...Tim Allen then says "1-800-Spank Me. I know that number!" That scene has been cut from the new release.

    I know that the scene in question was missing from the original DVD release. I've been trying to find out for weeks whether or not it's intact in the SE. Thanks, Scott, for finally answering my question, even if it's bad news.
    Is the scene included on "The Santa Clause" Laserdisc? I have the LD [IMG] but no LD player [IMG]

    Joel, the term "video" is kind of generic. Do you mean, specifically, a VHS tape?

    That's just ridiculous that they would cut such a little scene out. It's really not very crude or risque.

    The phone number was real. That's why it had to be removed/replaced.

    ...and you would know this how? [IMG]
    Perhaps Disney was experimenting with some "product placement".

    Tomoko;

    Would you mind double checking to make sure that the scene is in fact intact on the Japanese DVD? I have a multi-region capable DVD player and might consider purchasing the disc if so.

    Also, what are the disc specs? 16:9? Supplements?

    Thanks!

    I watched it, and the Japanese version was cut too, unfortunately. Sorry Carl.

    They had to cut the scene, rather than bleeping or looping the line, because it was a punchline. Without the line as written the tiny scene had little point. Not only was the number real, but little kids were calling it. [IMG] This naturally led to upset parents, threats of lawsuits, etc. Disney decided that cutting it was the better part of valor.

    When I heard the number, I actually called it. Shesh, Disney sure does like to put different sexual jokes in most of their movies[IMG] The line on the VHS is intact though. O well..I guess ill buy it anyway, since it is a pretty good movie.
