The disc is great, and if you've not seen the film, you are in for one heck of a performance. The image is not perfect, but this film is well worth owning.

It made my Top 10 DVDs of 2001 list. I'd say for someone who called himself a Peter O'Toole fan, this disc is an absolute must. Buy it, already.

Or you could always rent it. I remember not liking this movie that much after renting it on tape several years ago. I'm not sure whether it was the longer UK cut, the much better image presentation, or just a change in my tastes, but I really enjoyed the Criterion DVD.

It's a very Sixties movie in visual style and over-the-top concept - sort of half music-hall and half hysterical (both senses) drama. Give it a try - it's got a great, and very hammy, O'Toole performance.
