Too difficult to sync? Surely that would be a trivial thing for a movie studio to do?

Shoutbacks are a very regional thing - although there are common lines throughout, there are some lines that work in different areas based on local popular culture, so these should never be definitive.

This would seem to be a natural use for BD Live; 20th Century Fox should let fan groups from different parts of the country upload their audience participation tracks to a website, and make them all available through BD Live to be played with the film itself.

While I do agree that MOST of this title looks fantastic, the major mistakes made on this title really upset me.

I’ve seen this film more times than I can count, owned several different 35mm prints of varying ages, and watched many more in theaters over the years.

1. For unknown reasons Science Fiction is LETTERBOXED ( within the 1.66 frame which the Fox logo and the rest of the film is in), cutting off the top and bottom of the lips during parts of the song. The entire film was 1.66 on the dvd so this blunder on the Blu-ray is unforgivable.

2. The blue tint from Brad's bedroom scene has been removed. The blue tint from the Timewarp flashback has also been removed. Certain red tinted scenes in Janet’s room have also been removed.

I have a hard time watching this Blu-Ray because these mistakes really ruin it for me.

I was really looking forward to the release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Blu-Ray. Boy, was I disappointed. The song, Over At The Frankenstein Place, is out of sync, and it's the wrong version of the song. There's also the other mistakes that have been written about on this forum. But what really surprised me is how dark the Time Warp is. I've seen this movie many times in many places and versions from VHS to the special edition DVD that was released for the 25th Anniversary. The movie starts out at night and there's the scene in the car and the rain and when Brad and Janet are at the front door of the castle, and they're all very dark scenes. But when Riff Raff pushes Brad and Janet through the doors into the Ballroom and the Time Warp scene, this was always a sudden burst of light and color. Especially the Transylvanians and their colorful outfits, and my favorite character, Columbia, in her gold sequined jacket and hat. Now it looks like a dark room and the black clothes worn by the Transylvanians all seem to be lost in the dark. Even Columbia's jacket looks too dark. I actually thought at first that I got a bad copy. After all the rave reviews I read about how great this Blu-Ray looked. Especially with the out of sync scene, I was sure this was a defective copy. So I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new one. The new one is still out of sync, but it seems a bit brighter. Has anyone heard about a problem with the brightness with this Blu-Ray? I really thought about just watching Rocky Horror on my standard DVD player with the 25th Anniversary copy.

Maybe I've missed it mentioned, but here goes... I finally popped the disc in tonight (looks, sounds really good!) and was checking out some extras. With the alternate takes of certain scenes, they play in the upper left corner andtake up a bit less than 25% of the screen. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it supposed to be like this?

I did notice a bit more crushing in the blacks, but when I popped in the 2-disc SE from 2000, it appears that back then they raised the black levels a bit, leaving it a bit milky. Overall, I like the Blu much better. Watching the DVD on my 92 in FP set-up was quite depressing. I recall this being a pretty good transfer 10 years ago...However, I do miss the VH1 interviews and will probably hang on to my 25th DVD set for that and as an archive version after reading some of the comments here. But when I want to spin the movie in my home theater, it will be the Blu.

Interesting about Over At The Frankenstein Place. I had read somewhere that an alt take for one song may have been used but don't know the details.

Okay, so I'm not the only one who had issues with the blacks on the Blu-ray. I popped the disc in not long after re-adjusting my monitor with Digital Video Essentials on Blu-ray, so I thought the black level should have been spot on. When I was looking at "Eddie," things seemed off. So I turned up my brightness and I actually saw some detail emerge from the blacks. So the transfer on the disc does seem to have some detail in those blacks, but my suspicion is that they are incorrectly set "blacker than black." I want to go back and compare this myself and see if it's the movie disc, my calibration disc or my monitor that is to blame.

Why is the Time Warp reprise incorrect on the mono track when the rest of the track is correct? And why are the tints gone?

If you have issues re: the sound of RHPS, I humbly suggest you listen to the original mono mix - it may be a lower fidelity 35mm optical track, but I love the way the bass guitar is more dominantly mixed than in all the stero/multi-channel incarnations. I didn't check 100% but I think 'Frankenstein Place' is the correct original. Having the 'SFDF' reprise there is still a bone of contention with me so I'll be making my own 'corrected version'.

No one else has issues with the alt scenes showing up in the upper left quadrant of your tvs like I wrote the other night? Do I need to exchange for a new copy then?

I have also noted that this disc is VERY DARK when compared with both 35mm and 16mm prints, as well as the various video incarnations of this title.

I watched this on Christmas eve, and thought it looked great! I noticed the film grain in the scene outside the church, and it was lovely to see that instead of image processing. The booklet packaging is nice, though I find getting the disc out is a bit awkward.

Strange about the tint-removal and the end credit music, though.

I watched all of the deleted scenes, and I didn't have a problem. I suspect it might be one of your settings on your TV or Blu-ray player (some PIP thing, maybe?) I doubt it's the disc itself since nobody else so far has reported it.

I'm a little unclear about what's supposed to be wrong with the music during the end credits on the mono track.

I listened to both the 7.1 and mono tracks and its sounds like the same music on both. What am I missing?

Oh, so the DVD was wrong too? I had no idea. I've only seen RHPS on home video.

Finally got around to watching this. I thought the blu-ray looked great. I saw the film several times in midnight showings in the 80s, but honestly don't remember the nuances of the music/mono selections folks have referenced here. Also thought the text callback track was good, although it left off some of the lines friends and I recall from those days.

I've always thought the movie starts out strong and loses momentum somewhere in the last third of the film. But it is overall very successful in presenting a ghoulish vision, and having fun with it. To a teenager seeing this for the first time in those days, it really felt like you were seeing the underground scene you'd only heard about. I'd say it's also sincere in its admiration for the science fiction films it's sending up.

I'll be watching the extras for some time, since there are so many. Glad to have such a nice version of the film on disc.

I think it's just the way it is. I got a replacement that does the same thing. I think the ALIEN bd did it too. I'm certainly not updating my player just to get the extras to work right, that would get rid of the all-region abilities.
