I want this badly, but I can't find any release info
because it hasn't been announced yet. Probably around April/May
That's late compared to other titles which have already been released.
just FYI, Dreamworks has excercised their option on the original Japanese "Ring", theoretically/hopefully they will release it unedited and properly subtitled
You want it badly? Imagine how I feel (assuming you saw my thread in the Movies section a while back)! I am dying for the DVD!
I also desperately want the original on R1 DVD, but I have another DVD of it to tide me over.
If it's of use, the Japanese Rings 1,2 and 0 are readily available in the UK on R2 (and typically at 'budget' price). If you're referring to Wagner's Ring Cycle, then there are several versions readily available.
I would expect a release announcement very soon after the holidays.
If I were guessing I would say Late March / Early-Mid April.
*bump for info*
Accoring to www.videoeta.com it will may be out in March.
8 weeks to go...just 8 weeks...
You have 56 days...
Don't be going near any horses now.
Video pirates will be the only ones alive when this thing is released on DVD. I forsee a sudden upsurge of DVD piracy by March 9th!
I was up at the Metreon in San Francisco the weekend before the movie came out and was waiting on some friends there for an anime thing. One wanted to stay until the thing was over, it was 7pm, 90% of it had ended right at 7, and there was only this party with really loud music and a costume contest left. That ended at 10, so I had to figure out a way to kill 3 hours.
I noticed in the theaters a floor or two up they were showing the Ring as a sneak preview screening that started in about 5-10 minutes after my friend told me to kill 3 hours, and he made some whiny comment earlier about how he didn't want to see it because it was a remake and he would've wanted to see the Japanese original first to see how horrible of a remake this was (I hadn't seen the original either at the time) and he wouldn't watch the original because he heard it had these pop stars in it he didn't like... or something. Anyway... I blew them off and with a few minutes to spare before it started, bought a ticket and got one of the last decent seats in the theater.
I liked it and was glad I went. They ended up wanting to leave to get food earlier than they planned, they thought I headed back home... but I ran into them a short while later. The only wacky thing about seeing the movie was that even though it was a floor or two away and not directly under it, you could hear the music from the party in the theater... not clearly... but you could definately make out a *THUMP!*THUMP!*THUMP!* of the bass and some of the music. At first I thought it was a movie next to us, but as I listened closer, I realized what it was. During every quiet scene in the film, people looked around to figure out what that was coming from, if it was from the film or what. I seemed to be the only one who knew.
When the credits started to roll, someone said "You all now have 7 days to live..." and one person responded "...but I'm ok! I brought a friend to see it."
I said jokingly "I guess you'd be ok too if you bootlegged it." and all the people who made comments earlier chuckled.
My friends who are really big Ringu fans said they loved it. I have the original now, but need to sit down and watch it sometime. (I have a Toshiba standalone dvd player plus the PS2, so I bought the Japanese Region 2 kit for my xbox, so I can have a dedicated R2 player. cool stuff.)
I'll confirm March 4 -- it's in the trade magazine (VPD catalog) that I got today. It also says that "Ringu" is coming out, I'm assuming on the same date (or a week later -- it doesn't specify, but the pre-book date for "Ringu" is a week after the prebook, so it could be later...but I'm pretty sure march 4 for "Ringu" as well).
Looks like seperate releases for WS & P&S (for the remake, that is).
Thanks for that info! I am all over these classics when they come out!
