I would have liked the commentaries to be feature length on The Right Stuff SE, but I am definitely purchasing it anyway.

Easily one of the best films of the 1980s in my opinion.

I'm sure it will be a new transfer at least. The old one is quite bad.

The Canadian DVD is framed at 1.78:1, but according to IMDB the OAR is 1.66:1 (which I'm not entirely convinced is correct in the first place), which is what makes me the most curious.

Will this one be 1.78:1 anamorphic or 1.66:1 non-anamorphic?

Goodbye to The Right Stuff flipper snapper, I am so glad that WB are going back to their early DVD releases and older catalog titles & updating them.

I thought Giant was a scope film? Trying to picture the ratio from the times I've seen it.

This Ali G show really sucks. Why don't they show something with boobies like Cinemax does?

Is the coverart for Giant still accurate? On R2 Giant is apparently going to be a 3-disc set (at least play247 advertises it as such) which wouldn't suprise me seeing the length of the movie.

Warner's press information database shows exactly the cover art which Patrick has posted. Great find, Patrick.

Giant's artwork is shown there as is, and the unedited pic is a shot with 2 DVD's pictured coming out of the right side (a generic shot of silver DVD discs, no artwork is on the discs). That art is shown both angled (as above) and flat.

The latter is the same artwork I saw and posted last year, when it was going to be included in the "True Romance" wave of WB 2-Disc SE's, but got pulled later. Yesterday is the first time that artwork has been returned to Warner's system since being yanked last year.

Could it be a situation where the art is supposed to be different? Maybe...but Patrick can only post what he is given.
He does a great job finding these and filling us in with them. Jeremy Conrad, too. I try to help, naturally. I think we all enjoy it!

As for Specs for Giant, there are none listed yet to pass on. All the have is the video and audio stuff so far...the standard stuff. They have obviously not finished inputing data into this entry.

I looked around for other 2-Disc SE's that we are hoping to see this coming year (Goodfellas, etc.). I did see that Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Once Upon a Time in America are coming...both for the same date of June 10th!

So that's the new wave of WB 2-disc SE's: Right Stuff, Giant, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Once Upon a Time in America. A good year's crop!

I wanted Robin Hood POT and The Right Stuff since I got my dvd player back in '97, but both were flippers and less than stellar transfers. Can't wait.

Wow, this will be an expensive summer!

Warner, if your reading this please do the same thing w/ Chariots of Fire SOON!

Peace,

DM

Giant shouldn't be a 3 disc set.... it's only 201 minutes long. I'd expect a DVD-14 for the movie (like Doctor Zhivago) and a DVD-5 or DVD-9 for the supplements.
